O.K. Fill ME IN. JUST HOW WAS DAN RATHER CAUGHT WITH PANTS DOWN?
Posted on 09/09/2004 8:54:29 PM PDT by MrChips
I am just loggining in. I understand that Rather used the documents as part of his Guard story. But why are he and CBS the culprit? Didn't the AP get the released documents originally? Where do they come in? I am confused. Please explain.
Signed,
Tired Schoolteacher

Had CBS been fooled by good forgery, that's one thing, but this was a bad armature job, and they aired it!
CBS' defense of their due-diligence in authenticating these documents just don't stand scrutiny (in fact its laughable). They claim they have been authenticating them for like 6 weeks, and that their experts found them to be legitimate. But from what I am reading tonight, its darn near unanimous that all experts are quickly determining that they are forgeries, and not just forgeries, but poor forgeries. Are we to believe that CBS just had the rotten luck to pick the 2 or 3 least capable experts in the country to analyze these documents? Actually, now that I think about it, I can believe that CBS would purposely choose poor experts to give them the results they wanted.

How or why would Rather, who has been 'journalizing' on the margins for decades, get caught in such a blatantly sloppy forgery? Hmmmmmm.....I Wonder Why.

Not really true, Rather has incredible power. He decides which stories are newsworth, and he chooses how to spin the stories. I've heard he's a bully, and megalomaniac. Sometimes I think journalists have waaaay more political power than elected officials.

Rather got caught because when a reporter is predisposed to believe something, he won't be as diligent about checking the facts. That is why CNN was so hot to
accuse our troops of using sarin gas in Viet Nam, even though if it were used it would have killed the helicopter pilots who supposedly deployed it.

Posted for your consideration.
What Democrat politician forged an entire antiwar movement based on fradulent testimony.
What Democrat politician by controlling the after action reports turned a lackluster military stint into an Audie Murphy like hero's story.
What Democrat politician turned a splinter of rpg, a butt of rice and something in his leg into 3 purple hearts without ever being hospitalized.
What Democrat politician was blind sided by the SwiftBoat Vets even when told they were coming after his record because he trusted the old liberal media to cover his butt.
What Democrat politician stood to gain from destroying the reputation of George Bush?
Motive, means and opportunity.
You decide where the documents came from.

We could pull a bum off the street, blow-dry his hair and put him in a suit and he'd do the job just as well.
I'm not a bum, but for a free hair-do, I could do it!

I just read your 'about page' after seeing the screen name 'tired school teacher.' Fascinating!
I agree, however! It's 12:30, I'm tired, just give me some summary of today's news and I will go to bed rather than having to sort it out myself!

I have a suspicion that Karl Rove planted this thing. He wanted to take the wind out of CBS and Dan Rather. Plus there is that Kitty book coming out also. This way, if CBS is dumb enough to take this thing and run with it, Bush gets talking points and sympathy from the media/public.
If it was Karl Rove, it was brilliant. If it wasn't, it points to the stupidity of CBS.
