UPDATE 12: In the August 18, 1973 memo "discovered" by 60 Minutes, Jerry Killian purportedly writes:
Staudt has obviously pressured Hodges more about Bush. I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job. But wait! Reader Amar Sarwal points out that General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt. Bush, retired in 1972.
The more I look at these "memos," the more obvious it appears that they are inept forgeries.

Here's a quote from the lower Web address:
Although IBM had produced a successful typebar-based machine, the IBM Executive, with proportional spacing, no proportionally-spaced Selectric office typewriter was ever introduced. There was, however, a much more expensive proportionally-spaced machine called the Selectric Composer which was considered a typesetting machine rather than a typewriter.

Thanks for the heads up LadyJane
Please read #421.
Poor CBS, they really stepped into it...
Thanks for the last couple pings, this just get interestinger & interestinger...
Congratulations, I am certain you just pegged what will be tomorrow's democrat talking points on this issue!
These friggin' Clintonites, I HATE 'em!
I can just see Rather's apology. LOL!
I think what might happen is that the news agencies are not going to want to touch a Bush draft story with a 10 ft pole after this. And they shouldn't! They have been working on this for years and there is no there there.
Thanks for the ping, MistyCA. And while I'm at it...thanks to all the FReepers who have contributed to this wonderful day.
I've got a website of liberal women buzzing me like mad Killer Bees today. It's so sweet...they buzz, I make honey. Thank you Freepers!
Soros very much reminds me of Basil Zaharoff, the arms king of early 20th century. Same foggy background, same mysterious influence at highest levels.
LMAO!!!
I smell a Carville or is it the other...Klintoon goon ?
You are welcome. It couldn't get any better than this. :) Well....maybe it will! :)
What you said.
Well, what on earth are you doing in the midst of a bunch of liberal women? Huh? They spit, you know! :)
Very much like CNN's nerve gas/Laos deserter camp story of a few years ago. That hoax was the centerpiece of a new show, and the Pulitzer-chasing producer probably to this day claims it was all true. Peter Arnett made a cad of himself, claiming he was just the script reader and hadn't worked on the story. That destroyed him.
We used to watch Rather instead of fumbling Brokaw and snide Jennings ("some Presidents do it better than others..."), but several months ago we realized Rather was no longer trustworthy or objective. "The news from Afghanistan is good, however..." or "There is positive news on the jobless front, but..." So, it's almost always Fox now.
What you say!
L
LOL...good question. So let me answer it.
Because I can! LOL!
Actually, I have the upper hand. I've recently become the moderator of the Politics forum. It just chaps their butts, Bigtime. I am the lone conservative poster there for the most part. An occasional conservative lands for a while, but I think the liberal flack gets to them. They are so befuddled by my recent posts that they've started a topic titled 'moderator is not moderate.' He-he, and darned proud of it!
You're optimistic.... If the Rats steal this election or if Hitlary gets in in 2008, look for the Second American Revolution to start shortly thereafter.
Or - dare I say it here? - maybe the Bush camp is just getting that on-the-ball. Assuming it is a forgery, maybe the GOP "released" it to make the Democrats look foolish jumping all over a forged document. (Or, maybe I've been watching too many spy thrillers).
I, too, thank Jim Robinson for his vision, his character, and his generosity is having invested his energy in creating this fine forum.
Since I am feeling generous myself in light of the imminent demise of the AWB and, perhaps, CBS, I have just doubled my modest monthly contribution to FreeRepublic.
