THE "New" CBS BUSH DOCUMENTS: Let's do some investigating
www.freerepublic.com | September 9, 2004

Posted on 09/08/2004 9:16:02 PM PDT by Howlin

These are the NEW documents "discovered" by CBS with conjunction with their Ben Barnes expose/confessional tonight regarding George Bush's National Guard service.

They've gotten some interesting comments on the Live Thread, so I thought I'd give them their own thread so you people out there with the knowledge can dissect them for their accuracy/truth/existence.

That can't be true, because The White House didn't have the memos. CBS claims "we were told" the memos were taken (stolen?) from Col. Killian's personal file.

" increased the brightness on the redacted section in the May 4th PDF: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/BushGuardmay4.pdf
Forgery... there is no way redacted material in any military document would ever be visible. Ever."

I tried this myself...did a screenshot, increased the brightness and you are right! It's visible! Hard to believe but true.

The point is that they do look like fools (for good reason, of course). If, as somebody suggested, the memos were concocted to be recognized as forgeries, then why weren't they recognized?
Somebody asked why bother to forge such relatively harmless documents. I can suggest an answer (and I apologize if this is a duplication): somebody calculated that this was the most he could get away with. Remember that Mr. Bush has already been through two campaigns for the governorship of Texas and one for the presidency. There is no way anything really incriminating could be coming to light only now.

Dr. Bouffard is quoted in the NY Times as wanting to look at Times New Roman in the IBM Composer, so this is something you might want to follow up on.

He is identified by the NT Times as "a Democrat" and appears to be hedging his bets.

In fairness, the copies ARE crappy.

2) Would 5000 Longmont have been in a 77027 ZIP code in 1972? Or do ZIP codes sometimes shift boundaries? Did the 77027 ZIP code even exist in 1972?

A ZIP code is assigned for each post office in the US. As population and economic activity in an area increases more post offices are built. The particular area in question had considerable growth in the early 1970s. It is just south of the mall called "The Galleria" which is the highest end mall in Houston. It is quite liklely the ZIP code changed.

I can't tell you how much I want to thank you. I was away from all the news last night, as I was working in the woods on some storm damage. This morning I am happier than in such a long time for all the good things you and the rest of the FReepers have learned about Blather and SeeBS (and the Dems in general). This should be the end of Kerry, and all of Free Republic should be proud. Thank you again!

The CYA memos are of the "type" prevalent in the Government beginning in the late 70's when documenting a file for evaluation. There was a time frame for retention, they went into the employee's folder (not your personal folder), along with all other documentation, including positive Myranda. If not used, the memoranda were destroyed. In addition, the memoranda had to be "shared" with the employee, and so documented.

Based on Bush's evaluation, around the middle of the pack, there was no need for such documentation. Please note, I was a manager in the Government, not the military. However, the Gov functions more or less the same, wherever.

Compare one of the Jerry Killian memos given to CBS News,
and allegedly produced in 1972, to the same text created using MS
Word 2002. A person who wishes to remain anonymous forwarded a
link to me for an animated presentation which overlaps the two
documents and shows, using a current font, how tab spacing and
inter-line spacing match the defaults in Microsoft's Word.

You'll need to have Macromedia Flash installed to watch the
slide show. Check it out at:
