I have contributed to the Swift Boat Vets on two different occasions. Today, when I opened my e-mail, there was a thank you note from them, along with news of upcoming ads they will be running. I clicked on the link to contribute again. As I look back, I realize the form didn't look the same and I never looked at the header. (my mistake) However, I filled it out and contributed $50.00.
When the completed form popped up, I nearly had a heart attack!! I had contrubuted $50.00 to the Democrat National Party, complete with John Kerry's picture. I immediately called my credit card company to have it removed. I was told I must wait until I receive the bill to dispute the "contribution".
To those of you who will be contributing to the Swift Boat Veterans, PLEASE BEWARE the Democrats have a little pop up scam going. I will making phone calls in the morning to alert radio talk shows et al if this outrageous SCAM.

Please post the bogus email.

Thank you for contributing to the support of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
This email is your receipt for your contribution of $50.00
Your transaction number, which will appear on your credit card statement, is XXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is the thank you I received from the Swiftees tonight after my successful contribution.
And -- I still have not received a thank you from the DNC! What maggots they are.
I'm almost certain this is a spyware issue. I received the same email and it takes me to the proper web site. No DNC popups.
In fact I wouldn't even blame the DNC for this one. I'll bet some enterprising Kerry-worshipping scum-sucking hacker did this.
I copy the shortcut into notepad and it came up with:
https://www.swiftvets.com/swift/ccdonation.php?op=donate&site=SwiftVets
This matched the bottom of the window
You are right. The best way is to contact them directly.
You can call the DNC line directly and ask them what this is all about.
1-877-336-7200.
In fact, why not tie up their lines with questions.
Also, the DNC link you provide that takes you to a donation page is a little suspect. It is not a secure server where they ask for credit card information.
Bluefish is exactly right. Sounds like you have spyware on your computer. The swiftboat form was probably up on the screen you looked down to get your Credit card number or something and in the meantime a DNC form probably popped up on top. They were both probably red white and blue and looked similar as most contribution forms do. You did though from the sounds of it inadvertantly send money to Kerry... Glad you caught it and it got cancelled though. Pretty unlucky timing for a popup, but very possible.
There is some good free software out there to get rid of this spyware crap.

follow that link and click on adaware personal edition (the free one)
Toddly
I got the same email/newsletter today, and clicked on the link at the bottom of the email that took me to the home page for the Swift Vets...the page where you can view the film, help to keep the ad airing (donate), and the story behind the ad. I clicked the donate button and filled it out and sent my payment on its way. At first I didn't think it went through, but then I received a thank you from the Swift Vets with my transaction confirmation number. Thank God no photo of Kerry.
Yes,it does match. I copied the url and copied it to another window, it takes me to the swiftvets web page. As someone else suggested, it might be spyware.
That ebay email I got was a scam, the urls did not match.
What I now find curious is that my history does NOT SHOW a link to the DNC. That is even stranger. However, I did print the receipt that says "Support John Kerry" at the top and the internet address is on the bottom of my receipt.
Why doesn't my history for today show that I was on a DNC site?
These Hijack modules are all over the place. You click on
the link to your favorite site and the Hijack redirects you
to an entirely different site.
2020 search is one. ShopNav is another.
If you are on AOL, use AOL Spycatcher. I use Spyhunter.
It cleans them out for a while, but they keep coming back.
Another good reason to let the "assault gun" ban expire.
Joe is one of the stupidest 1% of Americans that gets an unfair "Tax Cut For The Stupid" because he got to write off his Salon stock losses on his tax return.
I would notify my State Attorney General and the FEC also
Show an IP address instead of the URL?
There are more crooks in the Democratic party than there are in all our state penitentiaries.
Is this a Florida chad moment for us? I made a donation to see if I got the popup but it was legit. But I wouldn't doubt the dummies are up to something.
The address at the bottom of the receipt says
http://www/democrats.org/support/supportdnc.html
Depending on your card issuer, you can check your balance/account online for many credit card accounts. That would also tell you whether the card has been charged, and if so, who the payee is. At that point you can enter a complaint against the charge.
Most credit card charges show up almost immediately on your account any more with the electronic capabilities. I have used my card at Walmart and by the time I got home, got online, pulled up the CC account, the Walmart charge was already showing up.
thanks, I got that email too...funny, I did not think the Swifties would solicit this way...that is why I waited..good thing!
Sorry about your donation, but you can get that taken off...
I mean in your history....you can get to FR using the numbers of the IP address, maybe they did that. Is there a listing in the history by an IP address?
