...one Vietnam veteran posted a bitter Internet attack, blaming McNamara for misleading President Johnson about the Gulf of Tonkin crisis....[fiancee writing] I am sure however, that you agree with me that McNamara at least had the courage to write books and make a movie (for which he was not paid) to explain the whole story."

Macnamera and Johnson were both clueless when it came to managing a war. I dispise McNamera.

I thought this guy was worm food long ago. It's amazing how the whole Vietnam thingy is returning, like a hemmoroid! This is one guy responsible for more names on that black memorial wall than [nearly, because I may be off] anyone else, other than maybe Ho Chi Minh

That moron thought he knew more about primary combat weapons than the pentagon did. He wound up sending over rifles without cleaning kits, with barrels that rusted. I wonder how many Americans wound up dead because of his stupidity.

McNamara gave birth to the F-111, the M-16, and the concept of running a bombing campaign from the Oval Office.
What a loser.

My favorite McNamara quote from the mid/late 60s, when I was drafted, was, in answer to a reporter's question on how the Vietnam War was going:
"No useful purpose can be served by speculation on
remote contingencies"
A cold-blooded response that might have come from a
computer, or a CEO of Ford Motors, talking about a
breakdown of the assembly line.

McNamara was a FMC whiz Kid. His understanding of war was body count. He thought if you kill more of them than they of you, then you win.

I'll never forget the story an admiral told about McNamara ordering all the Navy patrol boats to back off from the South Vietanm coast so that a North Vietnam supply boat could come through and resupply the Viet Cong.
Didn't want the mean ol' U.S. Navy interferring with his boys, I guess.

There's only one man who can make Les Aspin, aka Mr. Blackhawk Down, look like Henry Stimson: Rob McNamara. As incompetent as the Toon cabinet was, from Halfwit to Hazel O'Leary, nobody will ever have been as disastrous to this country as the Whiz Kid from Ford.

Good afternoon.
This swine should be sharing a cell with some sadistic bubba. By his own admission, McNamara had decided the war was futile early on but didn't have the moral courage to use his influence to try to stop it. He micromanaged the war and was incompetent to boot.
