South Charleston Mayor Richie Robb said today he may vote against George W. Bush in the Electoral College, even if the president carries West Virginia's popular vote.
Robb, long known as a maverick Republican, said he is considering using his position as one of the state's five Republican electors to protest what he believes are misguided policies of the current administration.
"It's not likely that I would vote for Kerry," Robb said. "But I'm looking at what my options are when it comes time to cast my vote."

Totally irresponsible on the part of the W. Virginia Republican Party. I was involved on selecting electors for several elections and the most important consideration was loyalty to the candidate.
A person could buy a delegate spot to the national convention but elector positions were not for sale at any price.
The NY times and hitlery are both on record as being against the electoral college. This could be a backdoor way of eliminating the electoral college - if this ahole makes this stick there could emerge a "tradition" whereby the electors split their vote along popular vote lines. That would have profound implications. Anytime you start playing with the constitution (either the written constitution or the common understanding of how things are supposed to work) you open up a huge Pandora's box.
To ask the question is to answer it, Weedhopper...
I think there is a pretty good chance that this election could end in a 269 - 269 tie. That means that if this guy goes through with his threat, it would swing the entire election to Kerry.
Don't know, never voted there.
It looks like he doesn't have a choice now.
Sounds more like a Democrat than a Republican. This jackass has made it plain that he'll mock the system just to satisfy his own selfish agenda.
Whoever this jackwit is, he needs to be tossed out of office pretty damned pronto.

"Maverick Republican"? That must be Leftist-speak for "Liberal RINO." And ain't it funny how Zell Miller is branded a turncoat by the Leftist media, but this jackass is called a "maverick"? (sarcasm) Oh no...no bias there! (/sarcasm)
As a 2004 Republican Presidential Elector, you must sign an affidavit stating that you will vote for the Republican Party Nominee---this year meaning Bush---when you place your Electoral College Vote.
On December 13, 2004, I will wholeheartedly support and place my one Electoral Vote for President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
You need to read this, Louie....
But I doubt that Congress has the gravitas to refuse to accept a vote from a faithless elector...
It's probably not legally binding, and if it is, so what? Peple break the law all the time.
Can he even Constitutionally do that on the first vote?
I want that t-shirt LOL
Zell Miller does not have control over an electoral vote for his party. Big difference. This guy is entitled to his personal opinion, but not to deny the Republican constituency their choice.
In 2000, one of Gore's electors abstained. That's why the final vote was 271 to 266 instead of 271 to 267.
If he does defect, the GOP only brought it upon itself in giving slots to people who lost badly in primary elections.
There's always some marginally stable people in politics who are indeed mavericks or seekers of 15 minutes of fame. This cretin may get two months of fame and media attention.....and he's probably orgasmatic just thinking about it.
