Hurricane Ivan: Now A CAT 4/Models Shift Again
NHC | 9-07-2004 | my favorite headache

Posted on 09/07/2004 5:45:54 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

Hurricane Ivan has become a Category 4 Hurricane again! Winds over 130 mph and gusts up to 160 currently. The models have shifted the last 36 hrs like never before. My fellow Floridians might not like the 8 pm model that has just come out:

Fitting that the red line track would do the most damage to Cuba...

Gas here in Florida is already in short supply.

Folks *might* have a chance to fill up tomorrow, if this storm continues to head our way.

The track that is showing up on the FSU package believe it or not on a solid percentage of the models shows a landfall in Collier County as a possibility or Dade county moving either NE or due N once on land. A few others are showing landfall in Tampa and going NE inland. 2-3 others don't let the storm near Florida and pound the Bahamas. Then we have another track that takes Ivan across Florida...out to sea..and into Cape Fear, N.C. in less than 120 hrs.

My aunt lives in Pompano Beach. Haven't heard from her since Friday morning even though I've emailed her several times.

This is getting ridiculous....I'm going to have to put plywood on the remaining four windows tomorrow. I'll leave ot up until December. Hope Ivan skips st. Pete, and all of the US, for that matter.

The NHC forecast is significantly west of those models, and it will be interesting to see what they do in the 11pm update.

I don't put much faith in these long term models at this point. Just this morning, the UKMET model had Ivan in the Yucatan.

Meanwhile, Ivan continues to chug west and so far south that Venezuela has issued warnings. I don't think anyone in Florida should overreact to what these models show tonight. If they're still showing that sort of track by Thursday night, then feel free to panic.

I live in Orlando.

Don't worry about her too much. In some cases, the cable is down. We lost our cable modem during Hurricane Charley. If she has a telephone modem and not a cable modem, we lost out telephone line for two days with Hurricane Frances.

Our electricity came back on late Monday after being out for two full days.

No sense worrying too much--it probably is lack of communication ability.
