AP: Lawsuit Gets Bush Guard Papers Out
By MATT KELLEY, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) was ranked in the middle of his Air National Guard class and flew more than 336 hours in a fighter jet before letting his pilot status lapse and missing a key readiness drill, according to his flight records belatedly uncovered Tuesday under the Freedom of Information Act.
The Pentagon (news - web sites) and Bush's campaign have claimed for months that all records detailing his fighter pilot career have been made public, but defense officials said they found two dozen new records detailing his training and flight logs after The Associated Press filed a lawsuit and crafted new requests under the public records law.
"Previous requests from other requesters for President Bush's Individual Flight Records did not lead to the discovery of these records because at the time President Bush left the service, flight records were subject to retention for only 24 months and we understood that neither the Air Force nor the Texas Air National Guard retained such records thereafter," the Pentagon told the AP.
"Out of an abundance of caution," the government "searched a file that had been preserved in spite of this policy" and found the Bush records, the letter said. "The Department of Defense (news - web sites) regrets this oversight during the previous search efforts."
The records show Bush, a lieutenant in the Texas Air National Guard, was ranked No. 22 in a class of 53 pilots when he finished his flight training at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia in 1969.
Over the next three years, he logged 326.4 hours as a pilot and an additional 9.9 hours as a co-pilot, mostly in his the F-102a jet used to intercept

Glad some one answered the "mediocre" charge. Mediocre trainees did not graduate, they never strapped into a fighter. They went to desk training.
Maybe the AP could do a story about John Kerry and how he had not been at work for over a year but keeps collecting the pay, and the benefits, etc? Nah! That's not important.....
GREAT POST
-The AP makes it sound like The Alabama Guard had 2 F-102's on strip alert in Alabama, but notice that they say "THE 147th" Well the 147th was part of the Texas Air National Guard and nothing to do with the Alabama Guard.
-NOWHERE is their a single document that suggests George W. Bush was ever AWOL or delinquent. The left and their enablers in the Main Stream Media are simply desperate
There are some records of mine missing from elementary school....
Does that mean I did not graduate college?!
Oh no....what ever will the AP write about me...
Isn't the real question why wasthis file was preserved in spite of policy?
Bush hasn't signe 180 either.
I just posted this on another thread in response to what the Democrats think they might be able to achieve by beating this dead horse again, So I'll post it to you

The reason why George W. Bush doesn't get all upset over this issue is because he knows the truth and he has faith in it.
These Lepers on the left will drop like flies trying to pursue this bogus charge. I don't doubt for a second that George W. Bush didn't want to go to Vietnam, many didn't. But just because you joined the Guard or the Navy in hopes to avoid direct combat is not something to be ashamed of.
My oldest brother joined the Navy in 1966 because he didn't want to be drafted into the Army, John Kerry joined for the same reason, but my Brother didn't join with the intent to game the system for future political aspirations.
In everything I have read about George W. Bush's service in the ANG, he served quietly and served his country honorably as a Fighter Pilot. Not too shabby in my book.
The difference between George W. Bush's 5/12 years of service in the Guard and John Kerry's 4 months in Vietnam is that George W. Bush didn't leave the Military and join the other side
woooooooo.
Didn't W get permission to be gone so he could work on a relative's political campaign during the time in question?
Congratulations AP!!! WTG!!! Now, how about Kerry's records??
Ask them...

I wonder why a lawsuit was necessary if Bush already authorized the release of his records.
It depends. Was Kerry's reserve duty IRR or was is something like standard reserve duty.
I know Bush had completed needed days when he applied for Grad School...and that, as well as the fact that his air craft was done, is why he got to go to Grad School.
Did Kerry actually get out before filling his time? If so...then that would be like a 3-1 enlistment in the Army...and Kerry would have to go drill each month for a year. And then go on IRR for call up...would he not.
So did he get out of Active early and then not show up for his reserve drills that were left over?
Just demonstrates that the AP and the MSM are going to hunt this dog until they are satisfied. Reminds me of Florida 2000, where the Democrats demanded recount after recount until they were satisfied Al Gore would be the clear winner.
To whom it may concern,
I read your article concerning your lawsuit to get President Bush's service records out into the open through the FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act). I'm curious as to when you will file another lawsuit demanding that John Kerry release his military service and Senate records.
The fact that you've only chosen to file a lawsuit to get President Bush's records released, while giving a pass to John Kerry, only shows that you as an organization to inform the public at large, that not only do you have a Liberal agenda, but that you have an obvious bias.
Furthermore, why don't you ask John Kerry what he plans to do as President Of The United States, and demand that he be specific in his answer, as to the details of his plans for the future of this country.
John Kerry honorably served this country in Vietnam. This, to me, is not good enough. Your job as an organization to inform the public large is to do just that, inform the public at large, in a fair and objective manner, not to shade the truth through apparent partisan bias.
Sincerely,

Grrr---don't you notice that the important tng. mission he missed was during the time ORDERS attached him to the AL unit for tng.and he wasn't responsible for that tng.?
This is written up in a way to discredit Bush, NATURALLY.
I hate the AP!
I hate CNN! --and Reuters
I hate Matthews! --Woodruff--Carville--Begala.........nnnn
O, o, o. Where is the Prozac? (actually, the only tranquilizer I ever took was 1 Valium when it was the drug of choice for drs. in 1962. I knew I still had problems, I just didn't give a @##. I knew as a military wife and mother of three, I couldn't afford to feel that way, so I threw them out and just got over it.) But is this TANG business ever frustrating.
vaudine
Huh? I read this information months ago, so his records must have been public for a while!
OK, AP, now where are John Kerry's military records?
....The Press is trying to confuse folks about where Bush was at each time....
Would it be possible that Soros is bribing liberal media outlets or individual reporters to print derogative info on Bush or to distort, manipulate and slant reports to destroy Bush? He has a vendetta, has millions available to insure Bush is out and, as we know, our media is not hindered by ethics?
