Your opinion please

I sometimes send letters to the editor. A few weeks ago Hagel (who is a McCain wanna-be) had to trash President Bush again. I call his office & complaint all the time & his staff sends out the predictable form letter. I wrote a letter, that might be too harsh, I don't know. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot. What do you think?

Senator Hagel,

I have written you over time. If you check the RNC you will see I have been regularly sending money to get Bush/Cheney re-elected. I believe we have to support our president in every way to get him elected. Every time you & McCain slam President Bush, you were throwing my & other supporters money away. I knew why McCain did it, envy and anger. I knew you were friends with McCain, but it hit me, about 2 years ago, that you were going to run for president in 2008. You can check your records & see I even accused you of trashing Bush for your own political ambitions. You thought you could look independent by trying to hurt Bush. Let me tell you a story.

Over 30 years ago my husband was at a restaurant where high schoolers were gathering after a football game. There was probably 40 kids from both schools there. Several kids were arguing over football teams. 7 guys from the other school, who lost, followed my husband & his friend outside & beat the hell out of them. Seven to two. They were both laying there half unconscious, when a guy they knew & was friends with in grade school came out. My husband thought this guy was going to help him. Instead he came up & kicked my husband & his friend in the side. In high school, if you could take on my husband, you had something to brag about. This guy was actually a puny little guy an average girl could beat up. He had little man syndrome. Had my husband not been down & out, this guy would have been in big trouble (and was later) This guy thought this would show these other guys that beat up my husband, he could take on my husband & was like them. You remind me of that guy with "little man syndrome". While Bush has been getting beaten up over the last few years all I heard from you was more Bush bashing. If you want to be a democrat, then change parties. We don't need enemies within. A house divided will fall & you are intent on tearing down our house so you can build one for yourself. Your house will fall because it will be built without a good foundation-the conservative base. If you disagree with the president & want to make things better, you meet with him & discuss it. You just want to be the media darling like McCain. You know the base resents McCain. Anyone who the media loves scares the heck out of me.

It is not too harsh. Good letter. I would like to think your letter will feel like a kick in the side to him but people like that are usually too full of themselves to feel shame when they should. Good job Linda!!! :)

Good letter Linda. In my years of writing letters to politicians is that I don,t use a computer. A lobbyist once told me that hand written letters are more likely to be seen and read. Again, good job.

Good letter.

However, whether or not it succeeds doesn't depend on you.

After you write a letter, leave it to God and pray about whatever you wrote about. In the end, only He can change hearts and minds...

YOu are only a witness to truth, not God.

And pray to God before you write the letter too...

Now, I don't say I follow my own advice ( I sent a letter in anger this morning to the Wash post) but tonight at prayer, God said: Next time ask. (No, I don't hear voices, but God speaks to each of us in our conscience). If you think first-- and pray first, then you will know if it is prudent to write the letter.

Elie Wiesel tells the story of a just man (during the Holocaust) who went shouting that murder was going on...at first, people listened, then later they ignored him. When a stranger asked why he shouted, he replied, at first I shouted to change hearts. But now I shout so that the murderers don't change my heart.

Hey, it works for me. I think you did a good job of making your point.

6-8 mos ago (maybe a bit longer, I can't remember exactly) National Review referred to Hagel this way: Chuck Hagel (R-France). He was furious! I thought it was not only appropriate, but funny.

"Little man syndrome."

I thought Dasshole had a monopoly on that?

Seriously, it's a good letter, send it, but don't expect anything to come of it.

Nothing ever does.
