Dobson Tells Christian Voters 'Enough is Enough' by Gary Schneeberger, editor

About 6,000 attend Focus on the Family Action's first "Stand for the Family" rally, hear exhortations to make their voices heard this Election Day.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Focus on the Family Action kicked off its series of "Stand for the Family" rallies here Monday night before a crowd of about 6,000 that did more than its share of standing — leaping to their feet at least a dozen times to cheer a quartet of speakers who exhorted them to make their voices heard on Election Day, too.

"It would be very encouraging for me to hear from you all tonight," Focus on the Family Action founder and chairman Dr. James Dobson said in greeting the obviously charged audience inside Charlotte 's Cricket Arena. "If this were a basketball game or a football game you'd do some yelling and stomping. And I hope you will tonight."

They did — not just for Dobson, but also for Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council; Bishop Wellington Boone of Promise Keepers and Gary Bauer, president of American Values and a former Republican candidate for president.

"The issues before us are so very critical. I mean, it's now or never," Dobson told them. "I really believe that the institution of the family is going to survive, or fail, in the next year — and probably this year. It is hanging on the ropes, literally. And so many people of faith, so many good people have sat around — sometimes myself included — for 35 years and let everything we care about erode away. 'Enough is enough.'

With all due respect to Dr. Dobson and Dr. Hutcherson...

It's a bit of a late notice, it's a HUGH drain on family resources (time, money, etc.) and less than three weeks from election day our political, finanical and human resources are best spent in our home districts and states.

Plus, October 15 is a FRIDAY...We're also supposed to take time off from work?

I applaud the cause, but if these facts are accurate (and I can't get to the actual article), I think this was not well thought out.

I couldn't post the audio of the radio show today. There is information on both websites, enough to know how to be at the Rally. There are reduced motel room, buses and other help provided by the Maydayformarriage.com website.

This is so important to all of us, christians and non-christians. I rarely post articles so bear with me. As Republicans we can make a difference in Washington if we all stand together on the issues. We will be there.

I just heard of it today on the radio show, and it was being promoted in churches prior to this. However since we at FreeRepublic share a common goal, I thought many would like to know about it. IF you can't attend, fine. Maybe some others would like to know about it.

Of course, the fact that our country has gone down the toilet morally is not Mr Dobson's dragon to kill. It is..or was..all of our responsibility and we blew it.

We are all guilty. And may God have mercy on our selfish and black souls for allowing the slaughter of 45 million to continue in this country.

I'm not faulting you. And I hope the event is a success.

I'm just questioning the thought process behind the timing.

Excuse me but I am aligned with Jesus, Holy Spirit and God the Father. And I happen to agree with Dr. Dobson on the marriage amendment and I don't pay attention to heretics who try to destroy christian groups.

The timing is fine and has been in place for awhile, we at FreeRepublic did not have knowledge of it is all. I happened to hear the program in my car today (one of several in past month) and since I had not seen it posted here, thought maybe some of the christians might like to know about it.

I agree. And I must restate I'm not faulting the cause. I'm looking at this from a political angle. If they DON'T get a million, it will only be bad press.

Out of all the "Million whatever" marches, rallies, events in the past decade ONLY the PK "Stand it the Gap" came close to (or I believe) surpassed that number. But it was never portrayed that way by the MSM.

On the other hand 2000 people show up for the Million Moo march and it's proclaimed a HUGH success.

That's all I'm sayin'...

I am aligned with Christ Jesus as well and good for you not to align with heretics -- we agree then.

A lot of what Dobson promotes SOUNDS good, but even more is detrimental to Christianity and Christian growth.

Certainly you don't see a problem with providing people with all information so they can make an informed decision. We wouldn't want to blindly follow anyone, lest we bring shame to the name of Christ.

Dobson told them. "I really believe that the institution of the family is going to survive, or fail, in the next year — and probably this year.

What, exactly, does he mean by "the institution of the family is going to fail"? Does he mean that existing Christian families will suddenly not become Christian? That parents will start looking at their sons and daughters differently?

But, see, that only strengthens my point. There are thousands of Freepers out there. I find it a little disconcerting that NO ONE saw this coming and posted it until now.

I know! It is shocking the stuff that Dobson promotes, isn't it!

While I agree with him on the marriage amendment, it's not the things we agree on that dictate who we associate with -- it's the things we disagree on that should produce caution.

Anyway, just doing what's right and helping people make informed decisions.

No he means that there is a movement to get a law passed stating marriage is acceptable to "other than a man and a woman". This is the time to get the Marriage Amendment passed that says "MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN" as God intended.

DR. Hutcherson and Dr. Dobson also said it is imperative we ELECT GEORGE BUSH AS PRESIDENT to help preserve marriage and elect the only candidate running who will work to help Marriage Amendment become law, as the President will need to sign it! Remember who has veto power.

The reason why liberal rallies during the week draw more people than conservative ones is tha tthe conservatives have jobs.

Where does what you think God says end and the law begins? Should we have laws banning the eating of shellfish? What about keeping slavery around?

Let God have his vengence on those that deviate from what you think is a proper marriage (is divorce allowed? Is Rush going to go to hell for being a Pro-Divorce talk show host?).
