I have heard that JF Kerry has dual citizenship in France. Is this correct? If so is this not against current eligibility for US President?
I think this is an urban legend.
There is no law prohibiting dual citizenship for US citizens, and I know of no constitutional provision that would make a US citizen ineligible for President because he or she is has dual citizenship. I don't know if Kerry has dual citizenship. He does have cousins who are French.
His wife does.
Nope, he does not have French citizenship, since he was not born here and does not have French parents. This urban legend must come from the fact he spent some of his vacations in France as a kid.
There was an article on dual citizenship last week on the Herald Tribune, if that interests you. It was on Wednesday, IIRC.

His wife ? Nope, I don't think so - on what grounds ? Was she born in France ?
His wife was born in Mozambique.
She might have kept her Portuguese citizenship, but I don't think Kerry has a second passport.
In Mozambique ? No kidding ? Then THEY should grant her IMMEDIATE dual citizenship, and then tax her heavily.
Jean Francois Kerry is not a French citizen, he is however a french girlie-man.
Actually, Kerry is a poodle. Here's three-fold proof:
1. He is French
2. He is a rich ladies pet.
3. He will not protect you.
My recollection is that the "test", from the standpoint of the French authorities, was whether he intended to make France his permanent home. Since he is married to a Frenchwoman and has lived and worked in France for many years, he passed that test easily.
My friend has no intention of giving up his US citizenship, although it would be in at least his economic interest to do so, since he still pays some US taxes in addition to French taxes.
That is interesting because my MIL has duel citizenship with France. For the record she is pro Bush
Yeah, but when you're noting more than an a--hole, it's a lot more difficult to have two.
Oh, he became a French citizen through marriage, then. Of course, I should have thought about this - probably because I couldn't think of Mrs Heinz-Kerry being French.
I don't know about the US recognizing dual citizenship, but there are a lot of countries where you can have a US passport and that country's passport if you were born to US parents in that country, if your parents were born in that country or if you marry a citizen of that country. Kerry doesn't seem to meet any of these criteria for France, but he could probably apply for a passport from Mozambique.
Your kidding,right?
