This isn't about the Koran, it is about people using it to justify their separatist demands. Any passage in the old testament can be taken out and used to claim our religion is a religion of war too. Yes, there are passages describing the murder of children and rape of virgins. That God for sending Jesus and His message of peace, and thank God so many Arabs in America have turned to Him. His way is the ONLY way, and there will not be peace through force of nations, only Jesus can bring peace.
The difference is that in the Bible, they are as you say - descriptions. In the Koran, they are injunctions. For example:
"When you meet the unbelievers in the Jihad strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly." - Koran 47: 4
"So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." The Congregation [62.6]
Much harder to twist the New Testament (which is binding for Christians) that way.
God helps those who help themselves. Now all I have to do is decide between Winchester and Remington. My teenage son is leaning towards Remington, while I like Winchester.
Any passage in the old testament can be taken out and used to claim our religion is a religion of war too.Don't make that mistake dude. There aren't any passages that order you in the present tense to make war on non-believers, to the best of my knowledge just retelling of the Lords commading of an obliteration of a specific group or area in the past. Also, your handle is followerofchrist, so our religion actually has no instances of Jesus telling the flock to kick ass and take names on his behalf. If anyone has to worry about the nuances of the old testament with regards to today it's the Judaism followers :-)
Yes, there are passages describing the murder of children and rape of virgins. You'll need to be citing a few of these...
I am a Christian, and I know where you are trying to go, but it rings hallow in the face of 150 dead children shot in the back, some after enduring 50 hours of torture. And where is the Islamic world? Are they taking to the streets in protest? Are they demanding the UN step in? Of course not. THey are complicently SILENT.
