THE full horror of the Russian school atrocity began to emerge yesterday as traumatised children told horrific tales of stabbed babies and brutal rapes.
It has also emerged that scores of the 323 who died - including many children - had been shot in the back.
While despairing soldiers and rescue workers moved among the growing pile of body bags, it was revealed that an 18-month-old baby had been repeatedly stabbed by a black-clad terrorist who had run out of ammunition.
Other survivors told how screaming teenage girls were dragged into rooms adjoining the gymnasium where they were being held and raped by their Chechen captors who chillingly made a video film of their appalling exploits
They said children were forced to drink their own urine and eat the petals off the flowers they had brought their teachers after nearly three days without food or water in the stifling hot gym.
Their stories came as Russian officials warned that the final death toll of the siege of Middle School No 1 at Beslan in North Ossetia - in which up to 1,200 people were held captive - was likely to be more than 400.
The official toll yesterday stood at 323 which included 156 children, 10 Russian soldiers and two emergency service workers - 35 of the hostage-takers were also killed. Last night 434 people were being treated in hospital with 247 children and 85 adults in a critical condition.
A Russian official said six seriously injured children had been taken to Moscow for treatment.
"One of them is a child, just 18 months old, with many knife wounds," he said.

I really hope he doesn't. I'm not Catholic, but I have always had a lot of respect and affection for this Pope.
I had not known he ever believed that kind of nonsense. It's very disappointing to me if he still does.

The hurricane coverage was ludicrous and superfluous. FOX needs to get its priorities straight.
One excuse they may have is that it is a holiday weekend, they are short-staffed as far as news-gathering goes, and most of their bright lights were on vacation.
I hope to see the Russian massacre covered in depth in the week ahead.

Thanks for all that you do to try to wake the people. I share your disgust with the MSN and even Fox News for not covering this in detail.
Don't they know that radical (if there really is such a distinction) will not cut them any slack except maybe to kill them last after they have recorded the slaughter of everyone else around them?

I'm pretty sure I know what happened. John Paul did what any obedient Christian would have done, he followed the example of his Lord and forgave his tormentor. Remember the Lord's request from the cross, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do"?
Forgiveness of those who cause us suffering is not optional if we want forgiveness from God for our own sin. It's in the book.

This atrocity was way undercovered; people need to know the sheer scale of the butchery committed by these adherents to the Religion of Peace(tm).
Joanie, wonderful commentary, and boy, oh boy, do I share your dismay about the coverage of this story. I wonder if it's time to email Fox again? This weekend was the worst they've ever been. I've had it up to here with "Breathless Rita" and "Idiotic Geraldo." Could they possibly be more inane?

When I noticed that most of the completely naked victims were girls I suspected that rapes must have been going on. Considering what these men were I hardly think they would've stopped at that.

Me, too, but especially the Orthodox churches. And there seems to be a train of thought that, oh, well, the Russians have been brutal to the Chechens so they have it coming kind of thing. The CBS reporter practically sneered it. And she brought up the religious differences, pointing out the 'devout' Muslims and the oppression by the Russians despite their Orthodox majority. How she could talk like this, almost incitingly, on the site of the horrendous, torturous deaths of so many little children is beyond my understanding. It was certainly inappropriate at that time and place. A definite pro-Muslim, which usually means anti-church, bend.
I believe SPeznatz (or whatever today's equivalent is) will do just that.
