WASHINGTON -- It has been 20 years since former Ohio Sen. John Glenn ran for president in the New Hampshire primary, but he still owes $2.61 million for his failed bid, records show.
The Cleveland Democrat took out a series of loans in 1984 in an attempt to boost his campaign and win the nomination from former Vice President Walter Mondale.

Note to self: Only take out personal loans in attempt to salvage losing campaign, when married to filthy rich Republican Widow.
G. Glenn
"There are no plans or any ongoing activities," said Mary Jane Veno, a senior adviser to Glenn at the Glenn Institute at Ohio State University. "At this point, in my opinion, no more of his personal money would be used to reduce the debt or pay it off."
If this were you or me we'd probably be in jail, or at least living very modestly.
The thing to remember: John Glenn is a spaced-out old astronaut.
The cost of selling your soul and honor becomes crystal clear.
"Cleveland Democrat took out a series of loans in 1984"
What did he put up for collateral?
His integrity.
Ted Kennedy's senatorial campaign is notorious for stiffing vendors. A flak calls a caterer or other vendor and tells them that come highly recommended, could they please furnish this or that for the Senator's campaign. They then ignore the invoice, which the merchant writes off most of the time, because it isn't worth trying to sue a campaign committee. He. Is. Such. A. Sleaze.
Wasn't John Glenn one of the keating 5?
Glenn was in the Keating 5. Accused of taking a $230,000 bribe.
He's got the money. He could pay it. He just figures he'll let it ride and stiff all his debtors. The only good thing I can think of that may come of it, some may have lost their own shirts as a result of this, and been so soured it turned them into Republicans. The moral of this story is never put a dime into anything related to a Democrat.
Anybody know if the Clinton legal bills are paid?

I had heard rumors that the late JFK did the same thing
in person--forcing his lunch companions to pick up the
tab, etc.
