646 vicitms of terrorist act in Beslan hospitalized.

03.09.2004, 22.00

“The former hostages are receiving therapy in mobile hospitals and clinics of Beslan and Vladikavkaz,” the source said.

Some 130 wounded people, including children, are in the Vladikavkaz clinic. The republican clinic has 38 patients, including five children, with the severest wounds and traumas, and the children’s clinic of Vladikavkaz has admitted 186 children.

Eighty adults are receiving therapy in the airmobile hospital, 200 in the medical emergency clinic, 32 in the republican clinic, two in the military hospital of Vladikavkaz, and four in the first town hospital of Vladikavkaz.

The town hospital of Beslan has admitted 98 adults, two were sent to the defense ministry hospital in Vladikavkaz, and one is in the Ardon town hospital.

“The majority of patients have bullet wounds in the back,” the sources said.

The storming of the school, was not prepared, the Russian president’s adviser Aslambek Aslakhanov told reporters on Friday. “We were getting ready for dialogue in order to avoid spilling blood,” he said.

Aslakhanov arrived in Beslan by air to take part in negotiation with the hostage takers.

According to Aslakhanov, “ the terrorists demanded the withdrawal of the troops from Chechnya and the release of all the people who had been arrested for attacking the security agencies of Ingushetia on June 22.”

Aslakhanov said seven to 30 terrorists had been in the captured school. There were representatives of various ethnic groups in the gang. It was fully international, he said.

The number of those killed in the Beslan hostage crisis may by far exceed 150," Aslakhanov said.

Seventy-nine victims of the hostage crisis were identified by 9:15 p.m. Moscow time, head of the Federal Security Service’s North Ossetian department and the crisis center Valery Andreyev said.

“Unfortunately, the death rate is mounting,” he said adding that the operation against the terrorists is going on.

Your post didn't answer my question. I asked if Putin retaliated after the Moscow Theater incident. I don't recall if he did or not so I was asking. I would agree that Putin is responsible for keeping the peace in Russia. So, did he retaliate or not? Yes or no?

arm the teachers, the pilots and the whole populace.
that brings safety.
of course your teacher friends that you don't trust... need to be fired. people who cannot be trusted with guns, cannot be trusted with my kids either.

Simple, they want independence for Chechnya. Make the cost of not giving in so gruesome and ugly that Russian popular opinion simply says "Make it go away, it's not worth it".

It's a complex situation and Putin needs some serious buy-in from the U.S. and Euro's to give him more leeway in dealing with this. This might just give it to him.

Innocents get caught in a global pi$$ing contest. Ugly.. Ugly.. Ugly...

Prayers for the victims and their families.

didn't answer my question either...
do you have, own, use or test fire a weapon regularly?

Hopefully this incident will change that. I've seen photos of Grozny, and I used to shake my head at the devastation and wonder why a better solution couldn't have been reached. That reason is on display here today.

Damn the EU, damn the human rights protestors, and damn anyone else that gets in the way. The time for epaceful negotiation has passed. It's time to "Grozny" every city, town, and village in Chechnya. I don't care if they use artillery, air power, or nukes, but it's time to introduce THEM to the term "blowback".

BTW, has there been any official statements from the Russian government about a response to this massacre yet?

Well, he could have used poison gas like in the Moscow theatre incident...

I imagine this is sarcasm. He lost 100+ friendlies in that, and that was with fully grown people. Can you imagine the effect that gas designed to incapacitate grownups would have on children? Putin wouldn't weather the storm of protest from his own people.

Hannity is right on this one. If the non-terrorist muslims don't start turning in the dogs that do this stuff, they all are going to be in internment camps or worse.

I wouldn't send my child to a school where teachers carried guns... It's the people I don't know who possesses them!

You are right. Guns aside, the problem is, it's the people you don't know, who teach them.

There are certain things that ONLY MUSLIMS seem capable of doing. Such as shooting terrified, fleeing children in the back.

On the television here in Eastern Europe, they are saying that ten of the MUSLIM TERRORISTS were Arabs.

Got a feeling that Putin is going to go KGB on Chechnya.

No doubt! 2 planes downed..Subway bombings...Children massacre... I would expect a scorched earth response.

You know, like the Palis, the Russians once gave the chechens about 95% of what they had asked for. Some independence in significant issues. But, like the Palis, it was not enough.

Have you seen the Putin quote on my FR site? It's a good one.

I have not checked Russian news since getting up this morning. I will try again soon. Last night and into the wee hours the one I use was crashed.

"the need to kill terrorists. I don't think we should blame Putin. He didn't have any good options."

Agreed with this statement. It was a lose, lose scenerio right from the start. This is a war - both sides understand that their will be military and civilian losses. If Putin gave into this now, you could expect 20 more schools being held hostage every month. It sucks hard and the terrorist are grotesque to be shooting innocent children in the back!

These scenerios are likely here in America. Anybody wishing it away, like those in the Kerry camp are kidding themselves. World War III has already started and we in the civilized world intend to win, that means brutal tactics must be explored and utilized to protect our populace.

They shot all the sleeping terrorists in the head while they were still in the theatre.

I don't recall reading of any specific military retaliation. But they are already trying to take chechnya from the terrorists anyway.

The Islamifascists have been targeting innocent women and children for years in Israel. It is really just gone global in the last decade or so.

No, I never have. We didn't have guns in my family while growing up--well that's not true. My father hunted and he had guns locked away. Women were not encouraged to shoot. I wouldn't particularly feel comfortable with one, although I've considered getting one. My boss carries a gun daily and yes, I feel comfortable with it in the office because I know and trust him. But in an institution like a modern school, I don't know the other people well enough to trust them carrying a weapon around me or my children.

Now we will see what will happen. It is time for ikcheria to be removed from the face of the earth. Nothing good has come from it.

Most Chechens favor Russia. Their own Wahhabis squeeze them too much. When there is not enough juice left in the "lower Muslims", the Wahhabis start the "kidnap, video and ransom" story. No need to remove Chechnya. Just the Wahhabis from their hole in Saudi.

"I truly hope these cowards rot in hell for their disgusting crimes. And I don't say that lightly!"

What ever you do to the least of these you do to me.

They have earned a place in hell, you don't have to cringe saying it.
