I can't recall when any of these mass fishing expeditions ever solved a crime. They tried it in the malvo case, and they were barking up the wrong tree.

---The information used in such cases can be obtained through the state Department of Justice, which keeps a record of all gun purchases made through licensed dealers in California. The information can be cross-checked with criminal records and other data from background checks that must be conducted when anyone buys a firearm, said Hallye Jordan, a Justice Department spokeswoman.---
Swell.

I get a real warm and fuzzy feeling thinking about John Kerry, Hillary, et al getting in power and having that information.

He said there is nothing illegal about using gun registry information in a criminal investigation, and that detectives don't need a search warrant unless they are denied entry or a person refuses to answer questions.

I am not familiar with California law so it might be legal there to use their own records.
It sounds like a fishing expedition to me, but in a few instances fishing expeditions might be ok as long as they are fishing in a very small pond, not the entire ocean.
Of course the ones to really check on are those who refuse to have their guns checked.
Cops use the "rock soup" method all the time to create an excuse for a search.

I get a real warm and fuzzy feeling thinking about John Kerry, Hillary, et al getting in power and having that information. No worries. John Kerry says he supports the 2nd Amendment. He goes fowling, don't you know (fortunately, he doesn't need a 30/30 for that).
To: Travis McGee
Yes, these guys have learned quite well from the statist playbook. They get you coming or going, while they're working on adding new chapters.
Maybe something you can work into your second novel.

In Montana the average houshold contains 7 guns I'm told.
Go fish! :^)
Also it's legal to drive around with a loaded gun in your vehicle and half the population does during hunting season.

John Kerry says he supports the 2nd Amendment. And next week he wont support it.
According to Kerry and his ilk: "Guns for me and none for thee."

"I do not believe that we have been exploiting a database in order to check everybody in the world that has a gun," he said. No, the are just using it to find guns of the right caliber and make.
