Same as the rate in November 1996. It was 5.2 in September that year, 5.6 back in May. FWIW.

Interesting. Twice the previous number. How do you miss 36,000 jobs?
You have partisan Democrats in the agencies that track and interpret the numbers ?
Also, there are liberal universities who work with these figures. For the last two years, for most months, they have underestimated the new jobs in the first reports and then slid in the real data in later months.
Just another example of my old questio:
"When do liberals lie?"

So that means (using the DNC "new math") that 6,000 jobs were actually lost in August.
I'm not sure how that classifies as "new" (ie odd). Can you explain why this shouldn't be taken into account, and to consider the economy a static entity?

It appears that the Yankees are out in front by 3 1/2 games, at least as of this morning.

We have a Girly Boy lib on our cul de sac who has a sign about the 3 million jobs lost. I will have to make this into a sign.Ask that sissy how he came up with those numbers. When he gets done saying "um, er, well, I think, I heard..." Educate him by telling him that the numbers used by the Kerry Lie team are from a survey sent out to large corporations.... and they use the ones the corporations bother to send in. Then tell him that 80% of job growth during this Administration has been in the small business sector, which is not included in the survey. Then by ask him that if so many jobs are lost, why aren't Kerry and others talking about the unemployment rate? He won't have an answer for any of those questions, but may parrot the Dumbasscratic talking points. Conclude by telling him that since he obviously knows not what he speaks, he should stop exposing himself as an idiot and take the damn sign down!

Because the difference between the preliminary 144,000 number for August and 150,000 is statistically insignifigant.
Get real.

It is very rare for the "expected number" to be this close to the actual released number. Anything from 125k to 175k jobs would have been been considered similar numbers.

From the AP:
"America's payrolls picked up in August, with the economy adding 144,000 jobs, slightly less than economists were forecasting and highlighting the slow and uneven recovery in the labor market that jobseekers have braved."
"But the drop in the jobless rate in August came as people left the work force for any number of reasons"
"The gain in payrolls was short of the 150,000 net jobs that economists were calling for."
"Job gains for July were revised up to 73,000, still a lackluster number but an improvement from the 32,000 advance first estimated."
"The economy has lost 913,000 jobs since Bush took office."
"In August retail and automobile sales came in sluggish, consumer confidence dropped and manufacturing activity grew at a slower pace."
"Economists want to see at least 200,000 net jobs added a month on a consistent basis before declaring the labor market fully healed."
Could these guys be any more negative?
To: RWR8189
up revision of July to 73,000 as well. Wages up a nickle.

This is really good news!
I know its a challenger mentally, but people have to see that Kerry/Edwards and all the scum of the DNC take great joy and eye-twinkling, hand-wringing delight at anything bad that happens to our country. Its not all just that he'll have some fodder. They really want bad things to happen to our country. I'm convinced that all dims want this. Zell Miller being the obvious exception. I often wondered why my grandfather was a staunch democrat. But when I saw Zell speak, I knew. That if that was what the dem party used to be, that would have appealed to him, being an extremely strong and independent man himself.

He and I don't talk any more after his index finger all most came off his hand when he tried to jab it into my chest while lying/whining about the upcoming draft, which isn't happening.
He bought his home for 1.3 million 3 years ago. He has put about $350,000 in extras, like a pool, walls like old missions and other exterior stuff. They own 3 new Audis and have a new Foreign SUV ordered. They have 2 loser sons in expensive colleges, the son at home, the only redeeming one goes to a very expensive private high school. His wife walks their 3 dogs twice a day as her job.
Yet, this clymer lies/whines about the economy. What is funny everyone on this cul de sac is employed, owns their own business or is retired like me. All adult children are employed or own their own business/profession. Everybody during the terrible Bush recession has spent a lot of money on improving their home and bought at least one new vehicle. That was financed by lower home owner loans and what we made on the stock market last year.
