Hurricane Frances : Free Republic's Friday Discussion Thread (2004-09-03)

=========================================

First, Thursday Night's Closing Summary (AlanCarp's Post):

ETA Computer Model - Melbourne strike - taking 24 hours to approach the coast. Arrival 11am Sunday. Takes at least another 24 hours to cross Florida - exiting in the Big Bend region.

GFDL Computer Model - Melbourne strike - similar to the ETA solution. A little quicker to the shore, arriving at 2am Sunday morning.

GFS Computer Model - Melbourne strike, from a lower angle, and still slow to approach, arriving 8am Sunday morning. This is a worse-case solution, creeping up from the West Palm area. Leaves the state via Valdosta (finally) nearly TWO DAYS later!

EURO Computer Model - Melbourne strike (got the trend here?) at 8pm Saturday night. SAME POSITION 24 hours later!! Exits to Panama City in another 24 hours.

UKMET Computer Model - Melbourne (*sigh*) to Tampa in 72 hours (8pm Saturday night state exit). By far the quickest solution, but that's still over the state for a DAY.

NOGAPS Computer Model - Strikes at West Palm Bch (surprise) 2pm Saturday. Exits near Tampa in about 24 hours after that.

The models have converged on the East Coast, but it is expected to be a Very Slow Slog to get there, with EXTREME devastation involved from a lengthy visit from an unruly guest.

Accuweather is guessing three options, the Carolina trek still being possible, but sounds a lot like Options 1 and 2 are close to the model projections above.

Try this link:

Live Hurricane Audio Feeds

Do you have Winamp? That's the player I'm using and seems to require less finessing than Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. Winamp used to be a free download.

If you don't have Winamp, and/or don't have the inclination to download it, FIRST open up Windows Media Player or RealPlayer, THEN copy the link into the "open file" box, THEN it should open.

I tried the link, there's a lot of static and hiss right now, so also try the link below. It's a bit quieter in terms of updates, but the audio is much better.

Thanks Karl. I was still able to get some audio from the Deerfield Florida link, though they are quieter than last night. Good that they are getting sleep.

It's up loud and clear now, sounds almost like broadcast quality as in television or local radio.

Is that water in the large blue plastic thing?

Yes, it is for water storage.

I'm twenty miles north of Clearwater on the gulf. I have 5 feet leeway before the salt water comes over my seawall and into my house.

They're predicting 1-3 feet maximum surge here and I hope and pray that holds. We worry here about water, not so much wind.

It's beautiful, sunny and warm outside. I'm on my way now to fill up my car even though it's 3/4 full.

This was suggested on radio because the Florida ports where the oil comes in are closed. Also, oil/gasoline trucking across the state may be disrupted for many days.

So chill out and fill up, Tampa Bay area gulf coasters.

Lenigal, you're such a good/fun cook,, what are you
making for Frances, while you are chillin'? Just saw your post. Hope you are still seeing lots of seawall and you can rest easy tonight.

I made a pot of Sloppy Joe today, what else!

On a toasted bun and with french fries and cole slaw, this ultimate comfort food will sustain me as I watch the water slowly rising higher and higher.........

When it comes over the sea wall, I'll have a Dove chocolate ice cream bar with dark chocolate coating.

Then when the power goes off, it'll be tuna fish out of can for three days.....by candlelight, of course.

NVA checking back in, reviewing my ping list to see what I missed. Wow it sure is good to have electricity, telephone, and Road Runner again!

Question: While I was out of contact has anyone raised the issue of Kerry's student deferments? If Cheney's five were for each of his years in college and either a fifth year or some post-grad work, then wouldn't it follow that Kerry was cat 2S for his four years and he wasn't as smart as Cheney to get his fifth year in Paris despite trying? Hit me like a hurricane and tell me the MSM is all over this.
