FORT LEWIS, Wash. - A soldier accused of trying to give al-Qaida information about U.S. troops, including methods for killing soldiers, was found guilty Thursday on all five counts of trying to help the terrorist network.
The verdict in Spc. Ryan G. Anderson's court-martial, which began Monday, was announced late Thursday afternoon.
Anderson, a tank crewman whose 81st Armor Brigade unit is now in Iraq, was accused of trying to give terrorists information about U.S. soldiers' strength and tactics. The terrorists he though he was meeting with were actually undercover federal agents, prosecutors said.
A military spokesman has said the charges amount to attempted treason.
Conviction required agreement by two-thirds of the jury of nine commissioned officers - all from Fort Lewis. The jury vote was not immediately announced.
Anderson, a 27-year-old Muslim convert, could face a maximum penalty of life in prison. The court took a brief recess after the verdict was announced, then planned to reconvene to consider his sentence.
Treason is very hard to prove even when we know the person is guilty.
Treason is only hard to prove to Leftists and Liberals: Leftists because many of them commit or facilitate treason themselves, and Liberals because they are so brainwashed by the Leftists, that they wouldn't know treason if it smacked them square in the face.
The rest of us have enough intelligence and common sense to know what treason is when we see it.
Let us not forget that the Rosenbergs were executed for "conspiracy to commit espionage."
That's what I was thinking- I thought treason at a time of war qualifies for execution....
Am I wrong?
This is a serious charge. Being found guilty of this treasonous act in a time of war warrants execution. The family may claim the body at the back gate..after paying the charges for the trial and execution.
....But then what would he do with his 72 virgins?
No that is too honorable...the gallows is the way to deal with traitors!
He has been convicted to treason, right? Is that too strong a word in this PC age? /sarcasm>
....But then what would he do with his 72 virgins?
Serve 'em appetizers and cocktails? I think that's what a unic(spelling) is suppose to do?
Treason in times of war = firing squad.
This turd's life in prison, is not going to be a picnic....
He'll be squating to pee, and wearing a veil and burka within a month....
Semper Fi
"Anderson, a 27-year-old Muslim convert"
Gee, what a shock!
"Treason is rarely prosecuted in the US. (as much as we see some committing acts of treason) Name the last case prosecuted US case."
The Rosenbergs?
Oh,I forgot they weren't really guilty according to the Democrats
However, their file was found in the Soviet Union under the name-liberal
Who said the commies didn't have a sense of humor!
Getta rope!
I predict a short life for this turd in Levenworth - even military criminal hate traitors.
no.
not wrong.
