Okay, so I'm a Selfish Hedonist for supporting Alan Keyes for U.S. Senate

Nothing (well almost nothing) would please me more than seeing Alan Keyes win a seat in the U.S. Senate!

Why?

• He's a God-fearing man
• He's an unabashed conservative
• He defends America and traditional American values
• He would be a pro-life vote in the Senate
• He would be a pro-family vote in the Senate
• He would be a pro-gun vote in the Senate (he's one of the few who is unafraid to express and stand for the true meaning and intent of the second amendment)
• He is a true advocate of the principles stated in the Declaration of Independence
• He would be a pro-tax cut vote in the Senate
• He would be a pro-defense vote in the Senate
• He would be a pro-sovereignty vote in the Senate
• He would be a pro-limited government vote in the Senate
• He would be a pro-self-government vote in the Senate
• He would be a Senate vote opposing liberal activist judges
• He would be a vote in the Senate for an eventual repeal of the 16th amendment
• He would be a vote in the Senate for an eventual repeal of the 17th amendment
• He's a far, far better man than his opponent on every issue near and dear to my heart

And despite his remarks on reparations or affirmative action, I would be extremely happy and take great pleasure in seeing Alan Keyes defeat Barack Obama. I believe whole heartedly that unlike Obama, Senator Keyes would preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America to the utmost of his ability and would dedicate himself to working with all of us in securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, and if that makes me a selfish hedonist, then so be it.



I challenge anyone here to put up a detailed list of the reasons why you believe Barack Obama would be better for America in the Senate than Alan Keyes.

And Andrea Zinga in the race against Lane Evans. Lane Evans has been a stealth representative for ten years now, however he still clings to his seat. The district is falling apart but people vote for Lane time after time.

I used to like Mr. Keyes, unfortuantely i feel perhaps he's gone a little over the top on this one. No necessarily for his opinion but for the way he expressed it with such callousness. I may be biased because I am a lesbian trapped in a man's body. :)

I've not seen anyone here call it a realistic hope. We are hoping AGAINST hope...looking for a miracle...and we fully acknowledge that.

Not the same comparison and you know it.
Reagan had honed his style, persona and speech making skills over many years as an actor and TV host for GE.
Reagan also had a core group of Republican backers that were able to initially help him raise money.
Reagan had a personality and skills very few candidates ever have and he also came across as a very likable guy.
Alan Keyes, other than the ability to speak well, has no real attributes as a candidate and is not a likable person.
He just is not able to make the sale to the voter. Why are so many people like you blind to his track record? The guy just is not an electable person. Now if we had a Parliamentary system where a good safe seat could be had then he could win. There just aren't any safe seats for Keyes to run for. Also the polls are showing what I long felt would happen, people in Illinois really don't want an outsider as their Senator. Don't bring up Hillary as that is a different deal and a special case out of the normal.
Keyes just can't win as a candidate for any office that includes Dogcatcher.

Don't start with that Lost cause stuff.
This did not have to be a lost cause race to begin with.
If the Republican Party in Illinois had just taken the time to find a candidate or candidates to run for this Senate Seat it could have been different.
But they ended up with sleazy Ryan and went downhill from there.
Hard truth is you have to cut your losses and go on.
Jim Thune in S.D. has a real shot at winning that seat from Daschule and that is where resources must go. To real possibilities not Pipe dreams like Keyes.

Many I supppose because Keyes will never be able to do anything about it as he will never be elected or get anyone elected. He is the kiss of death to any candidate. I doubt Keyes could get elected President of even an Evangelical organization...unless the organization consisted of him and a fax machine.

On the contrary, he is a candidate whom others should emulate. I certainly expect he will be hated, because he does not mince words. But it comes as something as a surprise to see him personally attacked for such a virtue from people who hang out in this forum. What gives?
