While Democrats like to call the GOP the grand old party of white men, a packed reception for black Republicans at the Republican National Convention told a different story.
"I think that the Democrats want us to come to the table to eat the crumbs, but Republicans want us to come and eat at the banquet," said Geraldine Sam of Lamarque, Texas, who is one of 20 black Republicans in the Texas delegation this year.

Call his office and tell him what a great speech he had.

He says the Democrat party has failed them miserably over the past 40 years and it is George W. Bush and the Republican party who is trying to educate their children, trying to remove the programs which make them a slave to government, trying to get them decent training and jobs...etc...etc.
It was quite a scene.
I said way back some time ago............
There are minorities coming over to our side every day.
Looking at the convention schedule and the convention floor,
you can see "red, yellow, black, and white"!
We are THE diverse political party!
AND WE ARE AMERICA!!!
I'm an American male black republican, and I BUMP this message!
Growing up I had always been told that the Democrats are the party of the little guy. What hogwash. When the book 1984 became popular it was said the Republicans or Conservatives would be Big Brother. Again, a load of hogwash. If anything with all their attempts at intrusive regluations, the Democrats are proving they are the Party of Big Brother.
This type of out-reach is of course a good thing, and should continue. But it should not come at the cost of certain principles, like for example Bush's embracing of racial preferences.
He said it himself at that meeting with minority journalists a few weeks back when he said that if race neutral admissions policies fail to adequately diversify the student body, then race ought to be a factor. That is of course, racial preferences, and it is not only opposed by most Republicans, but by most Americans in general.
That is why that quote about Bush declaring war on affirmative action is absurd. Bush speaks only of opposing quotas, which is easy. But he accepts the left-wing, created out of nowhere notion that diversity is a compelling state interest; so much so that it justifies discrimination against white Americans.
Its a good thing that Kerry is such an out of touch, elitist, far, far leftwinger, and that the prospect of him being President scares me so much to make me vote against him, because its things like Bush's betrayal on racial preferences that makes me not want to vote for him.
I get a kick out the (I think) oriental guy who is plastered in flags and seems to always be dancing around on the convention floor. I've seen him at least a 1/2 dozen times during the C-Span coverage. He's a hoot!
Amen brother. I am also a Christian4 Bush, and retired USAF.
Regards
I must say, I've been very surprised at the growing number of Hispanic Republicans that I've met in recent months. It's growing almost exponentially.
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
What's that supposed to mean?
I think I've seen who you're talking about, and I love it!
I love all the delegates! Especially the ones that dress up.
It is so wonderful to have these people love our Country and our President.
I wish they all knew they could register on FR and enjoy what they are getting this week...................... every day of the year!
We have a convention, DAILY, right here on
FREE REPUBLIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, Did anyone catch Don King...the other day. He was great!
The more the better! :-)
Steele was extremely good. I wonder if any tv stations covered his speech outside of c-span. I have a feeling not very many got to see it.
From the article -
""But," he said, "the number of [black] independent voters or Republicans who are willing to 'go public' is increasingly tremendous.""
I think churches have a lot of influence here and can do a lot of good, politics-wise.
It means don't change the message and the platform in order to attract "moderates" who are pro-homosexual marriage and pro-abortion, etc.
Unfortunately, I see moderates being more the rule than the exception in the republican party.
I pray to God it is true, since he was willing to incur the wrath of the republicans by campaigning against the governor about the sales tax hike.
