Code Pink Leader Admits Communist Sympathies at Fox News Protest (Freeper After Action Report)
Wednesday September 1, 2004 | Kristinn

Posted on 09/01/2004 10:14:43 AM PDT by kristinn

A horde of the pink unwashed descended on Fox News' headquarters in New York City yesterday afternoon to hold a "Shut-up-athon" against the number one cable news outlet in America.

Led by Code Pink, the leftist feminist group founded to oppose the war on Iraq, about a thousand demonstrators filled the sidewalk in front of Fox's building on 6th Avenue at 48th Street.

Police were everywhere to keep order, which they did with great success.

FReepers Coleus, Laserlock, ELS, Trueblackman, kristinn and two lurkers held a counter-demonstration there to support Fox News and to educate the public about Code Pink's red roots.

Several of our signs had messages praising Fox as "fair and balanced" which, of course, drove the leftists batty.

The signs about Code Pink were: "CODE PINK (Heart) FIDEL CASTRO, CODE PINK HATES AMERICA (both on hot pink sign board,) and COMMIE RED + SURRENDER WHITE = CODE PINK.

As soon as we set up around the corner from the protesters, they started coming over to argue with us. Most of them wanted to know what we had against communism. They argued that Marxism hadn't really been tried before, blah, blah, blah. What a bunch of headache carriers.

The cops kept an eye on us as some of the leftists looked they were ready to explode at us. Fortunately they calmed down and went back to the main protest.

Brian Kilmead of Fox & Friends stopped by for a quick chat and a photo with us on his way in.

The National Lawyers Guild green hats shadowed us for most of the time, taking notes on what we did and what our signs said.

After awhile the cops closed the sidewalk and herded everyone, including us, into a pen in front of the Fox building. We stood on the edge of the pen and faced outward, away from the leftists, and held our signs up for passersby, etc.

Code Pink's Gael Murphy, who was acting as their legal liason with the police, approached ELS and urged her to hold her sign higher so the FR URL at the bottom could be seen better from behind the fencing.

Medea Benjamin, Code Pink's most famous actor, arrived late and donned a ridiculous pink tiara. She came around and faced us so she could read our signs. I told her she was failing. That despite her efforts Saddam was overthrown and our troops' morale was still high. I added an encouraging thought for her, reminding her that at least Fidel is still in power.

Jodie Evans, founder of Code Pink, approached ELS and grasped her sign with one hand demanding to know why we were using the name of her group on our signs. I told her to take her hand off the sign, which she immediately did.

She complained about the messages on our signs about Code Pink. We argued they were truthful and presented our case to her. She finally said, "We have nothing against communism."

I thanked her for her honesty.

Another woman, wearing a socialist t-shirt, praised the Fidel Castro sign. She was very happy to see someone so boldly proclaim Code Pink's leftism until I informed her I was on the other side and the sign was not meant as a compliment.

Protesting inside the pen wasn't so bad after a while. The crowd thinned out some and the cops were a constant presence. We didn't see it when Medea was arrested for using a bullhorn, but we did see her get plenty of other warnings earlier for blocking the sidewalk.

Laserlock, Coleus, ELS, Trueblackman and the lurkers all performed bravely yesterday. Vastly outnumbered, they held their own admirably.

When we were on the 48th St. side, before the police herded us into the pen, a woman came up to me after seeing the hot pink sign I was holding and said, "I'm glad to find you, there aren't many wearing pink." I pointed to the group on 6th Ave. and told her that was where Code Pink was. She still didn't get it that we weren't part of Code Pink and continued to stand near us. I didn't have the heart to tell her explicitly that we were countering their protest.

No way these protesters are Commie's, really. So John Kerry while he was a leader of VVAW the group took money, support, direction form Communists here and overseas. And now the Communists are supporting Kerry.

Well read my tagline.

Of course not, dear. Your OUTFIT doesn't make your belly look flabby. Your FAT GUT makes your belly look flabby.

So, in other words, then: they were just quoting directly from the Democratic Party platform...? :)

“Conservatism, we are told, is out-of-date. The charge is preposterous and we ought boldly to say so. The laws of God, and of nature, have no dateline. The principles on which the Conservative political position is based have been established by a process that has nothing to do with the social, economic and political landscape that changes from decade to decade and from century to century. These principles are derived from the nature of man, and from the truths that God has revealed about His creation. Circumstances do change. So do the problems that are shaped by circumstances. But the principles that govern the solution of the problems do not. To suggest that the Conservative philosophy is out of date is akin to saying that the Golden Rule, or the Ten Commandments or Aristotle's Politics are out of date. The Conservative approach is noth ing more or less than an attempt to apply the wisdom and experience and the revealed truths of the past to the problems of today.” – Barry Goldwater, The Conscience Of A Conservative, 1960.

There was an NYCLU person blocking the protesters' view of us on Saturday as we protested the protesters at the Brooklyn Bridge. I asked her to move. She said, "The press is blocking you too." I pointed out that whereas they were taking our pictures to give us even more exposure, she wasn't, and she was supposed to be there to protect our right to protest. She didn't give me the satisfaction of agreeing with me, but later she did move out of the way.

Great work, everybody.

As a friend and I left the Garden last night and took the D train up to the Sheraton, there was one of these creeps from the Fox demonstration on the train. She was just pathetic. She actually thought some of the mainstream media were not biased. NPR and CNN were the examples she gave. We just let her talk, because she just wanted to hear herself talk anyway--she wasn't at all interested in anything we might have to say.

As we left the train, she said, "I hope you have a nice time here." Sure, convention-goers from out of town take the D train late at night instead of their Peter Pan buses. That's how clueless she was.
