That was a pretty good speech McCain gave at the convention tonight.
So, how will he undo it Tuesday?
My guess is that some morning show host will ask him, "So, do you think that John Kerry would be a good war time leader for our nation?", and he'll say "Sure," and that will totally erase his speech. "'Kerry Would Be Good War Time President' -- McCain" would be the headline, I expect.
What's your guess?
I'm not a defender of John McCain. I'm a "Anybody, but John McCain" kinda guy. He is a Maverick RINO Republican.
Annyokie, just last week John McCain was coming to the rescue of the man he encouraged us not to vote for tonight.
Which is it John? One moment he's supporting the conservative cause, the next dumping on veterans who served with John Kerry and have the inside scoop on him. One moment he supports bush, the next moment he's asking folks to lay off a man who besmirched every Vietnam vet.
Annyokie, John McCain is his own worst enemy. And that stands up no matter what Buchanan is or isn't. I disagree stridendly with Buchanan on his middle east policy.
But it was a good speech
McCain calls the swiftboat ads "dishonest and dishonorable. He has not gained any points in my book. Matter of fact he is still losing points.
I think John wanders around a bit.
However, his point last week was valid. There is no need except for the small minded to attack another's service.
HOWEVER, he has defended the attack on Kerry's Senate testimony. I don't see a dicotomy here.
Think outside your box.
Well, I am not sure what to make of McCain....but tonight...he did a very good job for our President.
ditto
Many of us have left our ballots blank next to his name in the upcoming primary, and have not been happy with his antics.
We'll see. I'm not holding my breath just yet either.
(although, his speech was pretty....surprising, and good)

For now, the right is the side for him. But I don't trust this guy.
Why? Because he is trying to build his legacy. He just doesn't know which way to go right now. Heck, he doesn't know what he wants to do in the future.
He was great, but he seems to be backing off his Moore thing.
I hope he sticks with it.
I saw him being interviewed by Chris Matthews, and he didn't seem to be backing off it at all. He said he wouldn't go see the movie because he didn't want to give money to Moore, and he also said he had seen so many clips of the movie on MSNBC, he didn't need to go see the film itself! Great slam.
Where did he say that? If he said that after the speech, that would qualify as just what I guessed. Only he'd not have waited until Tuesday.

"He just said " In the case of John Kerry, I'm confident he would stay the course..."
Where did he say that?"
Just after Gullianni's speech they had him in a booth - I was watching it on PBS.
Good heavens. If that's as I'm reading it, I was wrong.
He didn't even wait until the next day!

I assume this sounds familiar to you, and not because Hannity uses it all the time.
I saw the same interview. He didn't waste a lot of time.
You've got his number. He'll have it reversed by dinner tonight. When you look up "fence, straddler" in the dictionary, McCain smiles back at you from the page.
The Swift Vets have almost certainly shaved a point or three off Kerry's support. They did so because his campaign had gone overboard on his self declared war hero status. It has now been rebutted and he has been hurt badly, and possibly irreparably.
There is a very important question that now looms. Can the Swiftvets also go overboard and generate their own backlash? Clearly the answer is yes. Anything at all can be done to excess.
I'd very much like them to stop updating their ads on a weekly or bi weekly basis. Re run what they have and do new ones only monthly up to election day. Everyone who wants to see it has seen it. Besides, a slower presentation can allow hype to build for the next one, and get everyone to watch it.
There are only two months left. Two more ads would be sufficient.
Let's not risk generating our own backlash.
