However, I'm not sure this is helpful. Don King is famous, but for many not so good reasons. Let's face it, he's about as crooked as they come.

Charles Manson could declare he's a Republican and he'd get his own cheerleading section on FR.

Is that a parachutist pin on his right lapel?

This is a partial transcript of The Big Story With Rita Cosby, May 12, 2004, that has been edited for clarity.

RITA COSBY, HOST: Well, with the polls showing the race for the presidency in a virtual dead heat, President George W. Bush can use all the help he can get and as luck would have it, our next guest is out there stumping for the GOP, the always outrageous and very fun, Don King, joins me now.

I got to ask you, when I heard Don King (search) and GOP, I was a little surprised at that combo.

DON KING, BOXING PROMOTER/BUSH SUPPORTER: Four more years for George Walker Bush. Four more years for George Walker Bush, the man with a plan that will make America better. We are fighting for a better America, Rita, and that's why I'm here for him.

COSBY: Now, why though, because if you look at a lot of the African- American vote, predominately, goes to the Democrats. A lot of folks are going to be surprised that you're pushing for Bush.

KING: Well, that's the surprise in itself, you see, that we are taking for granted and presumed to be Democrats whether we know what the issues are or not. So we just vote, you know, like sheep running to the slaughter.

After all we don't hear about his politics do we.

Good point. Instead, CBSNBCABC will go out of their way to show the "few black faces" in the "white GOP" audience. They do it every four years. Tiresome.

I love Don King......ever since 9/11. He'd be waving his 2 flags and sporting a diamond flag pin on his lapel. ("Sean, you could never afford a pin like this!" ROTFL!!!Loved it)
Flashy..yes
Showy..yes
But he is a man who loves this country and with a true message "Bush does while dems talk" The opposite of Julian Bond, Jesse Jackson and all of the usual race ho's.

" The Dems have their celebrities, we have ours.

That could just as easily be "the dems have their crooks, we have ours."

There was something on that thread but not based on any facts that I saw. The only thing I have ever read about Mark politically was that he was ""elected"" to give Clintoon a tour once. No one else wanted to do it and I'm guessing they chose him because he was born in Arkansas.

CK Can you add anything?

If I ever did know it, I've long since forgotten it. I met Muhammed Ali once. It was around 1982. He was in the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, and a small crowd gathered around him. His speech was already badly affected by Parkinson's, but he was warm, kind and sweet. It's a good memory of mine.

Having Ben Affleck as Daytona's Grand Marshal this year was a slap in the face of the average NASCAR fan.

I agree.

But that will cost you $65.

Sorry, but after the feds, state of California, landlord, credit union for my car payment, and assorted others who have dibs on my paycheck almost before I get it, there's no room left over for what is laughingly referred to in my home as "discretionary spending."

A little over the top, don't you think? Nevertheless, your point is not entirely unwarranted. As for myself, you'll note that when I started the thread, I expressed surprise only — but neither approval nor disapproval of Mr. King.

What was King arrested for in 1954 and 1959? (More importantly, when did he start wearing his trademark hairdo? Obviously not in the 1950's.)

No Surprise here. Don King kept boxing in the Garden. Don King doesn't like anyone, including Uncle Sam, getting a bigger cut of his fighters' paychecks then he does. Don King takes care of Don King's financial interests.

What we need is Don King to do a pre-fight presser for the president.

Excellent. King may be many things, but stupid is not one of them.
