Wouldn't it be a giant example of poetic justice if the thing that finally sinks the Kerry campaign were to be these glaring discrepancies in this awards! Something is amiss here and it would be great if when we figure out what it is it turns out to be just another example of Kerry's absolute disregard for the truth!

My husband says this is VALOR CREEP. Sort of like when you start to fudge a little bit and take a teeny bit of a piece of fudge, then you take a little more, then more and before you know you have eaten the entire plate.

Interesting thing is that he added more and more valor but left out some things from first citation. Could it be he was cleaning up prior lies and adding generalizations of his valor?

I find it a bit puzzling that most of the attention is focused upon the medals when by far the most serious problem is his behavior upon returning to the USA. Those later actions did great damage to Vietnam Vets. It's great to see them rise up to get their stolen honor back. That should be the big story.

My question is: The Silver Star can only be awarded by the Secretary of the Navy, who at the time was Chafee. The Awards and Decorations manual states that the authority to grant some awards can be delegated from a higher command to a lower command but doesn't expressly say whether that is the case for the Silver Star.

Is there any evidence that Chafee delegated that authority during Vietnam? I find it odd that the Commander of Naval Operations, Zumwalt, and the Commander-in-Chief Pacific, Hyland, awarded citations to Kerry - strange in and of itself to be awarded multiple times, but none can be found with Chafee's signature. Did Zumwalt or Hyland grant other Silver Stars?

The Awards manual further states that for the "V" device to be awarded, it must state that in the award citation. As we can see in Kerry's Bronze Star, that statement is there. That statement is NOT there for Kerry's Silver Star. And it shouldn't be as we all know by know that the "V" device is redundant for the Silver Star. But Kerry's DD214 lists: Silver Star with "V" Device.
