Glenn urges Bush to condemn swift boat ads

CARRIE SPENCER

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Retired U.S. Sen. John Glenn said Friday that President Bush should take time in his Ohio visit Saturday to condemn ads attacking Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.

Political strategists say the Kerry campaign needs to fight back against the ads questioning his rescue of a crew mate and the wounds that won him three purple hearts, but runs the risk of tiring voters eager to hear about jobs and education.

The ads by the group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ran for just one week in three states but have generated intense media publicity, and polls this week showed Kerry slipping slightly.

-snip-

Ohioan Pat Runyon, who introduced Glenn, told about 200 supporters at a union hall that he went on a nighttime raid with Kerry on a three-man boat in Vietnam, and that Kerry returned fire even after getting shot.

"This is not exactly right either. John Kerry had three horses shot from under him but kept returning fire until his entire unit was wiped out. Then after three days he arose from the dead and returned to the US to lead the antiwar movement."

ROTFLMAO!! Thanks..I needed that:)

D'ya know, the only person he did NOT tell that he had shrapnel in his body was the radiologist who asked him about it before he had his MRI after his bike "fall-down-go-boom"?

Fascinating. I missed that, but it makes sense (my daughter had an MRI for an eye injury). They make you take off all your jewelry because the metal would start a-flying. It's logical that shrapnel could go ape with all the magnetic pull. Do you have a source? (Not doubting, I just want to pass it on to others!)

John Glenn should have stayed on the moon. I am an Ohioan, and his senate career was one liberofascist vote after another.

He did 3 orbits of the earth in February, 1962 as the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the earth. He retired from the Marines and the space program in 1964, years before anyone made it to the moon. He did make it back into space on a shuttle flight.

"I say polygraphs for everyone starting wit..."

You got it, then into a court of law. The very threat would make for some soul cleansing arse holes.

Even Kerry doesn't claim that he ever got shot.

You are apparently correct. All three of his Purple Hearts are supposedly for enemy shrapnel.

On Fox News where Kerry had entered into the congressional Record that is was his boat that the mine exploded under on 13th, March 69 and blown two feet out of the water.

Also, he said in the CR that Rassman was not blown into the water, Kerry blamed (typical)the boat driver for making a hard turn and Rassman went straight over into the river.

And the MWDP keeps telling us to move along, nothing to see here.

John Glenn left his brain in orbit and the empty shell has been bumbling around (along with McPain) since the S&L fiasco.

I worshipped John Glenn as a minor-god when I was a boy. I can still remember following all of the reports as he went up and came down. For years I had a copy of the local papers including his launch, splashdown and parade.

Then I grew up and he receded into a much wider history.

However, when he used his iconic stature to defend the entire season of krinton treason, I tossed him onto the bonfire of my vanities. I called his office and told them exactly what I thought - no response, no reply.

Somewhere along the line, Glenn lost something of himself and his ideals and I learned something about heroes. Today, I sadly believe that a childhood icon has shrunk into little more than a lickspittle RAT.

Looks like this story is now self-sustaining.

...It's sad that Glenn would sully his name like this, too bad....

If you've been watching, Glenn is a piece of crap and has no good name to sully.

Amen to that, filth.

John Glenn is a steaming pantload. I think he started drinking his own bathwater long before being put out to pasture.

He sold his last shred of integrity for a rocket ride as an old man and he has squandered whatever stature he might have had for any accomplishments as a younger man.

Speaking for many Ohioans, John Glenn sucks.

A quick post to North NJ Freepers:

1. I share your pain as I too live in NJ.

2. If you live anywhere near Wayne (Passaic County) and you have not yet been able to find a copy of the "Unfit for Command" book...go to the Wayne Hills Mall (fka "Meyer Brothers Mall"). There is a Waldon Books store there that has a bunch of copies of this book. I bought mine tonight ($27.00).

Hope this was helpfull. I'm going to go read the book now (not that I don't already know what a POS Kerry is)...

John Glenn is now a feeble old man and left in his own drool as he tries to form words from incomplete thoughts.

I knew John Glenn was not the good ol' guy of the South when he voted against the confirmation of Clarence Thomas. I will never forgive him for that. He is Rat to the core.

"Has there been a single prominent Democratic politician who has condemned Michael Moore for his foul lies and distortions and unfair impugning of the President's character?"

No. According to the indignant citizens who write letters to the NY Times, Michael Moore's documentary is well-researched and documented, whereas the claims by the Swift Boat Vets have no basis in fact.
