Microsoft released its official Windows XP Service Pack 2 this morning via its Windows Update Service. Its a 75 MB pack that that will take 3 hours to download on standard-dialup. All comments welcome. Its here!
LOL. sometimes the obvious answers are the hardest to see.
You make a good point, but my ISP (peoplepc) has a way of just disconnecting whenever it feels like. Maybe it would take a few tries, but I'll concede that if I really wanted to I could probably download it.
We'll see if it installs correctly and I can still...........<pop>
I won't run programs that hammer on the firewall, or offer to "Manage" my multimedia licenses, etc..
I don't know anything about Linux. my computer is a 333 Megahertz Compaq PC with maybe 200 meg RAM. my ISP is peoplepc, 56k modem.
I recently upgraded to Microsoft XP and I really love it, my computer runs great.
would you recommend I switch from XP to Linux, or from IE to firefox, or both or neither? thanks.
You may have 'pop' ed
all i did was 'oops'
got it all, looks clean, smells same too.
do you use their anti-viri?
Then get ZoneAlarm
My Windows update prompted me to download it yesterday. So far no problems, but I run mostly Office products...
Installed it yesterday, things seem OK, but have a question: Am I logged on?
I think you can probably keep whatever you've managed to download, even if it disconnects, and start with that the next time.
Downloaded yesterday, installed last night.
Not a problem.
XP is still the king of the operating systems.
Linux is great, Mac is cool, but those of us in the real world need Windows.
BE SURE TO MAKE A RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING, just in case.
I agree with you. This "Security Center" is designed for morons who refuse to take any steps to protect their own computers. Those who depend on free products to protect their computers are getting exactly what they paid for.
Anyone on this thread bashing Microsoft in this particular instance knows that to have good computer security they have to use the "best of breed" security products. Microsoft provides none of these best of breed products.
Personally, I think this is a step in the right direction. I'm not about to give up my Checkpoint firewall, F-Prot Antivirus, etc. I encourage any Windows XP users who "don't know anything about computers" to install SP-2 and help cut down on the number of bandwidth-hogging zombies out there.
thanks, I think I'll try a Mozilla browzer. I like faster.
"XP is still the king of the operating systems."
LMAO, King of Crap.......
If you just want a browser go with firefox - if you want e-mail and newsgroups get the Mozilla suite.
If you use automatic updates to download it, then it will download in the background as you use your computer. It's very aggressive at backing off when you use your Internet so you won't even notice it. For those concerned with a 3 hour download, just use the automatic update feature and "drizzle" the update to your PC.
Broadband is your friend.
It's simple. If you have a stand alone machine...get SP2 NOW!. If you havea home network then do some research on configuraiton options as the firewall will default to on and you may have issues with networking between a couple machines.
I liked the Opera browser more than MSIE, but Mozilla FireFox ROCKS!
Especialy like its customizable search engine feature and other plugins.
I'm downloading firefox now. Thanks
