The greatest battle ever fought on the North American continent and the historical aftermath of this titanic contest have been lost forever in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. On the same grounds where Robert E. Lee, John Buford and John Reynolds fought for principles they held dear to them, Gettysburg College has decided that political correctness is more important than its historical identity.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans hereby alert all of our members and friends to attend the rally to be held on September 2 and September 3 at Gettysburg College to protest the College sponsored art exhibit featuring the hateful anti-Southern artwork of John Sims.
It has become apparent that neither Gettysburg College nor Gettysburg appreciates the value of Southern tourism. The valor exhibited by Confederate soldiers in this decisive battle is no longer important to officials of Gettysburg or Gettysburg College. The Confederate Battle flag is an honored flag flown on the battlefield by our Confederate soldiers. By promoting what the college calls art in which any intelligent person can see is nothing but thinly disguised hatred, the Sons of Confederate Veterans have decided that an economic boycott of the Gettysburg area will commence on September 3. And millions of American citizens with a love of the South and their Confederate heritage have been deeply offended.
Commander-in-Chief Denne Sweeney hereby calls on all members, families, and friends to avoid Gettysburg and not to spend any money in the Gettysburg area. All people concerned with the anti-Southern bigotry of this area should alert friends, media, and anyone concerned with the growing problem in Gettysburg so that this boycott will become nationwide and not just regional.
After September 3, Gettysburg is to be avoided whenever vacation plans are being made. Please pass this on to all media, lists and Internet services for widespread distribution.

>I call it penis envy.
She didn't like seeing the "racist" confederate battle flag throughout the movie, I supppose. It is a 6 hour movie and aqbout half of that are battle scenes.
Well if she's not from this country, then she may just be under the impression that it is a racist symbol. I barely remember that movie though so now I want to see it *lol*
>>Gettysburg is definitely Yankee territory, way over-commercialized and poorly maintained.<<
Yeah, the South is so well-known for subtlety. *chuckle* Been to Memphis, lately? Atlanta? The Latin Quarter? We'll just blame Orlando on all those Yankee invaders...
No she was a NY-based flight attendant. I think she just assumed I was watching because I was rooting for the South! Heck it is just a good movie that filled up much of an 8 hour flight. We had a couple of Italians and a Japanese flight attendant and another American and they had no problem with it, nor did anyone around me.
Actually it is not 6 hours, but if you play certain scenes over like I do and look at the extra stuff on the DVD, you can stretch it out that long. Jeff Daniels is awesome in the movie.
Gettysburg is an hour's drive or less from Philadelphia, Baltimore or Washington. Shiloh is in the middle of frickin' nowhere. (There is no SOMEWHERE in Mississippi!) Saaaayyy, you don't think that has something to do with it, do ya? I don't mean to be city-slicker to you: It's not a bad thing to be far from the maddening crowds, but it does have its way of keeping a place from being all tourist-trappy.

It doesn't say what's wrong with the art. What's wrong with the art?
Nice to see you support leftist PC scum. Will you be pulling the D lever come November?
Shiloh isn't in Mississippi - but I could tell from your posts that history from that era isn't your strong suit.
I do have some young acquaintances at Gettysburg College and they are mortified by this madness.
I have never been to Shiloh, but Sharpsburg also fits the description of "quiet, reflective place" most of the time. The Visitors' Center is small and there are no t-shirt shops on the battlefield the way there in G-burg. There aren't even any chain fast food restaurants in town.
Uh, Yeah... Of course the North invaded the South; Of course Gettysburg was a counter-invasion. But if you think that means that Pennsylvania should've been more *welcoming* to the invaders, geez buddy...
>>It's not called the War of Northern Aggression for nothing.<<
BWAA-HA-HA-HAA!!! "Southern Partisan" is not exactly a journal of record. I always thought that was hysterical. They secede from the union out of FEAR the Union might TRY to do something that Lincoln campaigned AGAINST, launch an attack (what, a Pre-emptive strike?) on a military base located within the confederacy, and then call it "aggression" when the North sends some troops down there to quell the insurrection. Geez, man, you guys are a riot.
My bad... Tennessee of course.
It also isn't called War of Southern Rebellion for nothing. Maybe Davis should have listened to Toombs before shooting up Sumter.

Lessee... what did I write?
"OK, well THAT's just plain stoopid. (What the artist plans to do.) That's not an affront to the confederacy, that's an affront to the dignity of the UNION."
But it funny how many Southern "patriots" still identify themselves with the insurrectionists, instead of Americans.
