John Kerry placed in the Congressional Record on January 28, 1998 the eulogy he gave (apparently) at the funeral of a former swiftboat companion. He describes what could be an entirely different version of the Rassmann falling in the river/mine exploding story.
"What tossed Kerry's boat 2 feet into the air was him hitting the fishing weir at full throttle while in a panic stricken attempt to flee the area."
Another version I read indicated that Kerry's boat struck an obstacle (which very well could have been a fishing weir) which caused Rassmann to dismount and threw Kerry up against a bulkhead which caused the arm injury.

> ... please someone find out if Rassman IS BEING PAID ...
Preumably the few loyal brothers are on an all-expenses-
paid vacation until the election, but in the case of Rass,
there was a story here a few days ago that he has no job
to go back to, having separated from the LAPD under
{undisclosed} circumstances.
In a Kerry Admin, of course, all of these guys are
likely to get cushy appointments if they want 'em.
All of which is just a distraction from getting to the
truth. If one side is lying, knowing WHY they are lying
is interesting, but what the voters need is a rundown
of all the conflicting stories, and which have the most
evidence and credible witnesses.
That was Kerry campaign press release following Rassmann's appearance at the Iowa primary. I kid you not.

Best guess is pleasure cruise. Either that or orientation of some sort.
One of the first thing they teach you in the Navy is the difference between starboard and port.
P.S. You sail, too? I had a little 16 ft day sailer that my wife and I used to love to take out on the lake.
Rassmann, Kerry and the Orchid Business <-- Rassmann Motivation?
Earlier today, someone posted a list of Purple Hearts from the Department of the Army, and you'll never guess who is on that list! None other than First Lieutenant James A. Rassmann. Date of action....you'll never guess...13 March 1969 Whow, what a surprise!!!
Consider: the #3 boat was shredded and sinking after running over a mine, but sKerry's boat has strange powers and must have LEAPED 2 feet into the air BEFORE the mine exploded, otherwise it would have sunk. sKerry really knows how to drive a boat. Unlike those stupid other skippers and superior officers that didn't know anything....
And the right turn into the shore? Well, that is an example of him bravely turning into fire, of course...or maybe he wanted to get closer to the shore so he could ricochet himself again with his grenades for another automatic self-inflicted boo-boo.
The "Special Forces" would have to wait another day to get dropped off into Cambodia, because it was heigh-heigh ho, off to the medical ship we go....
By the Way...I can't imagine the poor dead man's family was too pleased with this eulogy...the best thing he could say about the guy was that he cussed and swore so well...
On page 106 of " John F Kerry, Blah,Blah," by Michael Kranish, it says that Rassmann was a
" bobbing target as he dodged bullets whizzing by him."
" He dove to the bottom of the canal and stayed under for as long as he could, but,
was shot at each of the five times he returned to the surface."
Jacques Cousteau Rassmann has bullets whizzing by him,
he's hiding from the enemy by diving to the " bottom " of the canal-
but, apparently, when he surfaces, unstead of trying to lay low and avoid calling attention to himself-
he lets loose with a string of curses that somehow the enemy ignores and
only Kerry can hear-over the sound of the 3 and a half miles of enemy fire that he claims was coming from both sides of the river-while he's fleeing in his swift boat.
Kerry either is in the early stages of Alzheimers, is a pathological liar or is mentally ill.
Perhaps all three.
There was action ashore, during the day. That's where Kerry got rice shrapnel, and Rassmann may well have had an injury while under fire. It's not as though Rassmann and Kerry would good friends at the time (they might have been, I don't know).
The mining of PCF-3 happened on the way back to port.
Well... he was a sailor.
And the classic thing is that in Brinkley's "TOur of Duty" (which Kerry had final approval over) and Kerry's own website, place Rassman on a different boat than Kerry's.
Very FISHY, no?

I think Rassmann's "face time"with the press is about over.
Wow! Goon Show moment
Seagoon: what happened to Little Jim?
Bluebottle: He's fallen in the water!
That was exactly my first reaction! This version of the story may offer a whole new insight into those "brave beaching" stories.
