Batman rips Robin: Adm. Schachte disputes Kerry's 1st Purple Heart claim in new Novak column
Beldar Blog ^ | August 26, 2004 | William Dyer

Posted on 08/26/2004 2:42:58 PM PDT by mcg1969

I'm told that now coming across the newswires is a new column from Bob Novak that contains extensive quotes from Retired Rear Adm. William L. Schachte Jr.

Schachte, call-sign "Batman," has broken his press silence to insist that he was indeed aboard the Boston Whaler or "skimmer" in the early morning mission on December 2, 1968, out of which Sen. John Kerry's first Purple Heart was awarded. Schachte maintains that Kerry's minor arm wound was not sustained while under enemy fire, but was indeed the result of Kerry — code-named "Robin" on this mission — being careless in firing an M-79 grenade launcher. Other officers are quoted to support the likelihood of Schachte's presence.

I'll update this post when I can find the full Novak column online.

>>what is she planning

NEW YORK -- A day before Republicans swarm into Madison Square Garden, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will stroll into the arena to make the Democrats' case against the GOP on national television.

Clinton, perhaps the brightest star among Democrats slated to counter the GOP message at the Republican National Convention, will appear on several of the Sunday morning political chat shows the day before the convention begins.

She is to appear on CNN's "Late Edition," ABC's "This Week" and NBC's "Meet the Press."

Very intelligent political strategy -- don't fire all of your ammunition at once.

Considering the Swordfish's targeting system, the rudder hit was luckier than I had imagined!

I posted this on another (duplicate?) thread about the same story:

It's too bad that Kerry has opened this can of worms by centering his Presidential bid on his military record.

A retired Rear Admiral who was ON THE BOAT with Kerry, and in command (what was the admiral's his rank at that time?), says no enemy fire!

This whole tawdry situation is most unfortunate. Nobody really wants to believe that Kerry could be so opportunistic as to significantly exaggerate some of these incidents.

Almost I begin to feel sorry for the man. Not for "baseless attacks" against him, but because of the emerging facts which indicate that the criticisms do indeed have significant basis.

There's no way that so many decorated officers, and others who served with and near Kerry would trash their own beloved reputations by simply lying for George W. Bush. It's simply unprecedented.

Where there's smoke, there's fire, and I don't think Kerry will bounce back from this.

Kerry might be able to pull his butt out of the fire if he issues a sincere and direct apology for his POST WAR activities. I think he'll have to.

If not, Kerry will continue to be justifiably characterized as having slandered the US military in a broad way.

"What will probably happen next is one of Kerry's crew will jump ship. When they read about Kerry lying about the death of the civilians in the Sanpan and making himself a hero in battle against the enemy when it was actually just a tragic death of civilians in the war. This will turn one or more of their stomachs. I think Kerry's band of brothers will be smaller in the next few days."

This is exactly what I told my sister in a phone conversation this afternoon, that I was waiting for one of the Kerry supporters to be overcome by too much guilt and jump ship (pardon the play on words, Rassman) and rat on Kerry, the biggest RAT of them all. I'm waiting with bated breath for this to happen, and may it be sooner than later.

Tres bien. But I much prefer the more Vichy sounding Jean Fraude Kerrí.

By the way, how audacious of you to sport the non-PC name of the grizzly bear. Last time I was at the Seattle zoo I seem to recall them being retooled with a kinder, gentler name.

After what he did to Michelle Malkin, Crispy boy should be made to get down and kill her toes while asking for forgiveness.

Well if that's the punishment I better start flaming her here.

"We want the original report. Kerry -- we want to see the 180."

I believe all the Swifties have long ago submitted their own form 180's, and have all the proof in hand. I think they are now just playing with Kerry and the MWDP before delivering the coup de gras

My guess is that he is going to attack Nixon and his administration for the way then ran the war, and blame him for the atrocities committed.

That is if Kerry's friends in the media actually allow him to do such a stupid thing on TV.
