Why is it that so many people view the Republican party, and conservatives as raceist? If it weren't for the Republican party the civil rights movement would never have even started. Ulysses S. Grant was preaching about social and racial equality, way before John F. Kennedy was even born. Without furthure Lets take a look at the evidence.
In his 1st Inaugural Address Grant said, "The question of suffarage is one which is likely to agitate the public so long as a portion of the citizens are excluded from it's privledges in any state. It seems to me very desirable that this question should be settled now...by the ratification of the 15th article of amendment to the constitution." Democrats, and the Southern people were so angry towards the preaching of racial equality that Grant spoke of, they often referred to him as a "radical right wing Republican".
It was also during Grant's Presidency that the rise of the white supremecist terrorist organizion The Klu Klux Klan came along. Grant sent troops into the South to protect the 4 million former slaves, and other people of color.
In 1876 widespread voter fraud lead to the set up of a electorial commision, which lead to Rutherford B. Hayes' posisition of Presidency because of the Comprimise Of 1877. Because of this comprimise many people were denied their rights to have their votes count, Rutherford B. Hayes was elected by the commision only because he agreed to the comprimise with Democrats. This comprimise meant that the troops sent to protect African Americans in the South be pulled out, and colored people would be left to defend themselves against the racist terrorist organization of the KKK.
The comprimise also gave Democrats a strong hold on the south, leaving old Republican promises of civil rights in the dust. This strong hold also resulted in the denying African Americans the right to vote, despite the 15th Amendment, for nearly a century.
Democrat Woodrow Wilson, was a known white supremecist. He once kicked a group of African Americans out of the white house for their beliefs in civil rights. His pick of his cabinet, was of course, all white. Wilson is known for his attempt to disable the civil rights movement.
One modern example of Democrats denial of civil rights, is Senator Robert Byrd. Byrd is a former Klan leader, and one of Bill Clinton's greatest political allies.
So why is it that Republicans sit around and let liberals lie about our record on race, when history is clearly on our side of the race issue? It's time to set the record straight about the begining of the civil rights movement. It's also time to stop the liberal lies. Alan Keyes confronts these liberal lies, why won't the NAACP?
...Somebody please show this to the NAACP....
FYI
Whiel we're at it, why don't we show them what Lincoln had to say about blacks?
...Somebody please show this to the NAACP....
The NAACP has a special republican history book burning room, they will gladly accept this and then promptly burn it.
bump
Be careful using Grant as an example----HE WAS A SLAVEHOLDER
"I actually voted for John Kerry, before i voted against him."
LOL That's a great tagline man.
This isn't about anything Lincoln said, so that would be a moot point anyway.
Refight the Civil War on another thread. There are plenty of them around here. But this ain't one of them.
It's a well known fact, that without Republican Party support, the Civil Rights Act of the 1960`s would never have become law. A greater percentage of GOP Senators voted for the CRA, then did Democratic Party Senators.
Johnson, upon signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law, was quoted as saying, "We'll have the Negroes eating out of our hands and voting Democrat for the next 200 years."
Never heard that before.
After the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act passed into law, LBJ was heard to say, 'we just lost the south to the Republicans'. Paraphrasing.
The first gun control laws were passed by Dems to keep blacks unarmed and defenseless while they were being lynched.
Jim Crow Laws were passed by Democrats.
Race-based laws are still preferred today by Dems... they've merely changed which races they want unjustly treated.
Oh, yeah, and there was that little thing called the Civil War, where Republicans ended slavery in the South, where Democrats fought to the death to keep it going.
The War on Poverty had been underway for little more than a year when Johnson, in January 1966, announced plans to create a commission to make a comprehensive study of rural poverty. This step reflected the president's growing unhappiness with the direction the antipoverty crusade had taken in the big cities, associated as it was with attacks on Democratic party organizations run by leaders friendly to the chief executive, and Johnson's concern that the Office of Economic Opportunity--despite his explicit instructions--was not demonstrating adequate concern for the problems on the poor who lived out in the country. Although a majority of the nation's poor lived in urban areas, the incidence of poverty among rural dwellers (25 percent) was higher than it was for residents of the central cities (17.4 percent). Because rural poverty was too disparate to permit easy characterization in the media as a single social problem--encompassing as it did black farm laborers in the South, whites in the mountains of Appalachia and the Ozarks, Indians on scattered reservations on the Plains and in the Southwest, Hispanic migrant workers in California, and low-income farmers and factory workers throughout the nation--and because this very diversity seemed far less threatening than the tinderboxes building up and exploding in the big city ghettos, the plight of rural America seemed all but invisible. By creating a presidential commission, Johnson was resorting to a favorite device of his administration to capture the nation's attention.
You sure about that? I thought Grant was a failed businessman before going back into the Army.
Do people realize that every US citizen killed in the American civil war was shot by a democrat. Democrats are the largest mass killers of US citizens in American history. (Fact, not rumor)
I am a un-reconstructed rebel, but if anyone is looking for demoncrat bashing material, you are welcome.
I quickly looked it up and you are technically right. Grant's wife's family were slave holders and he was given a slave as a present ant then he freed. Julie Dent, Grant's wife, actually kept the slaves given to her until 1865 when they were legally freed. None of these slaves were Grant's property.
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
