WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Most American women -- especially those who haven't decided who to pick for president -- don't feel that President Bush (news - web sites) or John Kerry (news - web sites) understand them, pollsters and independent experts said on Tuesday.
"Overall, we found that neither Bush nor (Sen.) Kerry seems to be connecting with women, especially young women and undecided voters," said Meredith Wagner of Lifetime Television, which surveyed women's attitudes about the election in July.
About half of the 1,000 women surveyed said neither presidential candidate can relate to them or their lives, and fewer than 10 percent said either Kerry, a Democrat, or Bush, a Republican, understands them well, Wagner told reporters at a telephone news briefing.
No woman has ever been U.S. president, though Geraldine Ferraro was the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 1984. The Lifetime survey found roughly 20 percent of young women think there will never be a woman president.
Women make up a disproportionately high share -- between 55 percent and 60 percent -- of U.S. undecided voters, according to Democratic pollster Celinda Lake and Republican pollster Vincent Breglio, who both spoke at the same briefing.

Yea, like any man understands women. Women are like any other natural resource. They are for exploiting not understanding.
Men are very easy to understand. All we need is a bass boat, big screen TV and great sex; and not necessarily in that order.
Can any woman observe President Bush and First Lady Laura's marriage and comport with one another or watch him with his daughters and say he doesn't understand women?
Actually, it's quite simple:
The unspoken fallacy here is the idea that women understand men :)
Kerry and Bush should consider this a compliment.
Although if you're a woman with over $100 million, Kerry will pretend to understand you.
If you ask the Lifetime crowd, they'd probably tell you *shudders* Dr. Phil.
Yep, they've already thrown that hapless flounder, Kerry, over the side and this is the beginning, 4 1/2 yrs out, for the Hellery campaign. It takes a Hellery to understand women. Women want to be "understood" by the president of the United States. Barf...what utter nonsense. These are the same women who watched "Sex in the City" and dreamed anyone cares about them and their inconsequential lives. The most effective group of voters in the country is conservative women. Make sure you and yours are registered and then go vote in Nov.
A Safe and Secure America for Their Families!
Someday, somebody is going to invent detachable boobies. Then your statement will be untrue.
Oh, be a man. I think you got the order just right.
That's pretty much what I said in my post, I thought.
Wife whacked me with a pillow. Turned out that it was both......
Complient her, flatter her, bring her flowers, tell her you love her, spend time with her, complient her mother, enjoy her cooking, kill big spiders, etc etc etc
Ways for a woman to impress a man....
Show up naked. Bring beer.
Yeah, well, if the women surveyed are viewers of 'Estrogen TV', otherwise known as the Lifetime channel, they can be forgiven for having the attitude that men don't understand them. They are fed a steady diet of that from daylight til dark!
I would lol, were it not so sad but true.
That's great that you've gotten your wife to see the light! Nice story.
Thanks... I always had a hole card with her, namely that despite her self-professed leanings, she came from a business background and was always more conservative than one would think at first glance. I just had to draw it out a little.
sorry, ranting at the article, not you!
but it IS fun yelling, "Balderdash!"
