Police suspect Moscow bus stop blast was terrorist attack
MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - A senior police source said the bomb explosion at a bus stop in Moscow on Tuesday evening may have been a terrorist attack.
"The power of the explosive device was equivalent to more than 150 grams of trotyl [TNT]. The explosive device was stuffed with shrapnel," the source, who is an official with the city police authority, told Interfax.
He said the bomb went off at the moment when a bus was leaving the stop.
I can think of a couple of names of people that usually hit these threads saying people are over reacting, this was an accident, this is not terrorism...
That's really bad. Speaking of that, two airplanes crashed in Russia. One of them exploded and the other one sent a hijack signal.
Are you suggesting we go into Russia and start fighting their civil war for them?
Man those birds from Long Island get around don't they? Planes just breaking up on take off etc..just like flight 528 in NYC...or was that jetwash? Whatever...we all knew this was terrorism from the moment the word came out about a 2nd plane.
Anyone who says otherwise is a fool
Seems hooliganism just went beyond getting drunk and having a punchfest.
anybody what bush's and/or the US position is on chechnya?
I'm not sure but I think we are on the wrong side of this one, just like Bosnia.
They are probably heavily invested in transportation stocks. Like the ones the try to minimize the fact that millions of illegals are invading our country. They hire them and pay um cheap wages and pocket the difference. Lots of people out there with conflicts of interest and money at stake.
Bump for later.
Yeah, as soon as I heard the story, I would of bet 6 months mortgage that it was terrorism. I mean, it was kind of a no brainer.
i'm thinking our official policy is to have no policy. from what i understand (not much, in this case) we dont want to support russia, because its a long drawn out war or land, and we dont want to support the rebels cuz they're probably getting some $$ from iran/iraq/al qaeda.
ok, thats a shot in the dark. anybody have any other thoughts? i'm am very curious about this.
My guess is airline employees working with terrorists are responsible for both.
The first one broke up in mid-air, the second one sent out the hijacking signal and then went down and crashed into the ground. Sounds like the second one did not break up in mid-air.
Don't know how they did it but they did. Many don't realize, that if someone is intent on bringing down an airliner, it can be done. Just glad I don't have to fly anymore. Even without the wacko terrorist, it was a pain in the butt.
If I remember correctly, the Moscow Theater event was chechnyans and the US views them as 'freedom fighters' (I think that is the right wording)
I think its because we haven't supported Putin regarding Chechnya, that it just added to the reason that Putin disn't support the US in Iraq. There are so many players its hard to keep them all straight. What I do know is that if there is a major conflict somewhere, you can bet one of the parties is muslim.
So that's a short on the airline stocks tomorrow since fuel prices are way up and these events will put a big damper on the traveling public.
No doubt.
Not really, it seems that from the Russian perspective the Chechen conflict is about oil, specifically the ongoing commercial transit of petroleum through a pipeline which does not yet fully exist.
The Chechen independence movement is all about power, as there are reported to be a very large number of utterly ruthless Chechen criminals profoundly involved in Russia as well as in Germany and elsewhere.
I just wonder about muslim countries actually handing over a plane for just such a purpose and then claiming it was hijacked.
