PITTSBURGH - How much would you pay for a bottle of beer that stays cold nearly an hour longer? Pittsburgh Brewing Co., maker of Iron City Beer, is asking an additional $1 per case.
The brewery has partnered with Alcoa Inc., the world's largest aluminum maker, to produce aluminum bottles that keep beer colder for as much as 50 minutes longer than a glass bottle, Alcoa officials said.
About 20,000 cases of the new aluminum bottle beer are en route to as many as 28 states and should be on shelves this week, Alcoa and Pittsburgh Brewing said Tuesday.
The bottles have three times the aluminum of a typical beer can. That gives them superior insulation, Alcoa spokesman Kevin Lowery said.
It's not the first time Alcoa has teamed up with the local brewery to put out a new product. In 1962, the two put the first pull-tab beer cans on shelves, freeing beer drinkers of the need to carry openers with them.

Today at thee store I saw some fruit/water drink in an aluminum bottle- took me a minute to realize what the heck was up with the bottle LOL
It'll be all the rage for a while because it looks neat.
Plus, less breakage issues I would imagine. Plus women drink beer slower than men so her beer will stay cold so you can buy her less heh
Good point,...it takes less time to get it cold, but most people take a greater amount of time to drink it,...and those who don't are too drunk too realize the difference.
OK, let's parse this statement. The aluminum bottles will "...keep beer colder for as much as 50 minutes..." First, note that it says "colder," not "cold." So if you take both bottles out of your 35° refrigerator and leave them on the counter of your 70° kitchen for 50 minutes, and the beer in aluminum is then 60° compared to the beer in the glass bottle at 63°, well, the beer in the aluminum is indeed colder, but still not satisfactory.
Or maybe they mean that the beer will remain at a drinkable temperature (say a maximum of 45°) for 50 minutes longer. That might be a more useful datum. But wait: it says "...as much as 50 minutes longer..." And what does that mean? Why, nothing at all.

LOL, how does it take longer than one hour to drink a beer? My beers are gone in 15 minutes max. If you need to take it somewhere, get an ice cooler.
Noticing the delay in posting times, it appears more than one FReeper has departed their computer, in route to the refrigerator to confirm these hypotheses.
I prefer my beer given to me by two cute blonds, while I lay on a pile of pillows, being hand fed grapes, while getting fanned by two redheads in bikinis and a couple of brunettes are whispering in my ear how desirable I am.
How much is that beer per case?

LOL! I was just thinking the same thing. My problem with a can of beer is that it just doesn't last more than about 15 minutes. I love the taste of beer, and wind up drinking it like soda-pop. To solve that, I usually order it in the on-tap "after-work" size: a 1-quart fruit-jar "stein." A couple of these will quench a girl's thirst...
(and, no "LITE" BEER, either. Full strength/flavor, or nothing.)
I find this hard to believe. Aluminum is a much better
conducter of heat than glass.
The same can be said when it comes to soda pop. 7-Up (or Coke or Orange-Crush or whatever) out of a can just can't compete with the same stuff out of a glass bottle.
Perhaps this rather odd invention is designed to keep your beer cold after you have decided to break the seal. Of course, after breaking the seal I don't see much reason to keep a beer around for an hour.

Amen! My handle is not for fun, I have a bit of experience here. Tried regional beers, Dixie, Lone Star, etc. I will give Iron City one point, the label is accurate. Possibly the worst American beer made since "Billy Beer". Forget the beechwood or whatever, Iron City tastes like it was aged with a box of 16 penny nails at the bottom of the vat. Have no idea whether the Alum "bottle" works or not, still strikes me as lipstick on a pig.
Only girly men need 50 minutes to drink a beer.... lol.
Why would anybody keep a beer around for a whole hour?
