NEW YORK - This morning, John Kerry used New York City as the launching pad for his latest rounds of attack on President Bush and urged the GOP to abandon the negative attacks of "fear and smear" and to return to the debate on issues.
However, it is clear from a reported phone call that Kerry participated in Sunday evening that Kerry sees that the discontentment of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth as fundamentally non-related to the Bush campaign.
Kerry reportedly placed a call to Robert Brant (Ret.) Commander, United States Navy. Brant had skippered boats #96 and #36 and spent time with Kerry in An Thoi. According to reports Brant used to put Kerry back to bed when he would be caught sleepwalking.
In a world-wide exclusive broken by Internet journalist Matt Drudge, Kerry clearly asks a Swift Boat Veteran who is critical of him - what he did?
Kerry: "Why are all these Swift Boat guys opposed to me?"
Brant: "You should know what you said when you came back and the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there."
Kerry: "When we dedicated SB1 in (19)'92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."
Kerry also asked for an opportunity to meet with Brant - face to face. Brant declined...

Is an eight year old running the Kerry campaign? What the heck is he doing in NYC this close to the Convention? It looks like a toddler's "me too" tantrum. Did President Bush haunt Boston before the Dem's Convention? No. The Kerry campaign will go down in history as one of the most inept ever.
Doesn't this sound as if it might have been a conference call with other veterans?

CLASSIC medical condition for those who want to get out of the military EARLY. IMHO he was setting the groundwork, but alas he obtained 3 pH's FIRST so he never had to use it.
Two reasons I believe this to be a KERRY manuever to get an early release.
1. He NEVER would have got the assignment to begin with if his medical record had SLEEPWALKING in it from the USS Gridley.
2. I knew of three incidents in my 26 year career where SLEEPWALKING was used to get out of the military, starting while I was in boot camp.
No PROOF of this of course but I can speculate based on experience.
Right. So Kerry is now saying that he trashed all vets EXCEPT the swifties? How does that make all those 'Nam vets feel, those that were not swifties?
Me thinks Kerry just dug a deeper hole. Pretty soon that hole will take him to where he has always wanted to be: Vietnam
This whole exchange is very telling IMO, and to me portends one of 2 things coming to pass very soon.
Kerry has spent his entire life preparing for this campaign, he has been telling people he will be the next JFK since he was a child. Everything he has done has been calculated (by him) to furthur himself toward his goal.
He has never once envisioned the things he did actualy coming back at them, he views them as squares checked off in his great plan. As such he could never have envisioned the vicious reaction of the SVFT to his candidacy -- after all "he told them his comments weren't about them"
I don;t think Kerry has ever thought that he could actually lose this campaign, and now it is not only dawning on him he could lose, but the reality of his past is staring him in the face.
As I said this leads us to one of 2 things happening :
1. He will totally and completely implode as things ramp up and get worse. In this scenario he will not even make it to election day. He will fight and flail for a little while and then completely give up. Maybe even to the point of dropping out of the race.
2. More likely, he will go into a complete rage. He will go scorched earth, nuclear option. The rabid dog Dems will love this, but the more astute ones politically (yes I mean the Clinton types) will be appalled and will run from him in droves. BUT they will let him rant on and go ultra-negative in the secret hope he takes a bunch of Pubbies with him.
FInally, no matter which way it goes, Gore's post-loss meltdown will be noting compared to Kerry's. I will predict right here that Kerry will be so utterly destroyed by this, that he will be a broken man for the rest of his life.
You might have thought that the sheeple of America have forgotten that you were a lying traitor then, just as you are a lying traitor now, but there is a real Band of Brothers that remembers what you did, when you did it, and we are as PI**ED OFF now as we were then.
