FOX News reported this today:
And questions keep coming. For example, Kerry recieved a Purple Heart for wounds suffered on December 2, 1968. But in Kerry's own journal, written 9 days later, he writes he and his crew, "hadn't been shot at yet." Kerry's campaign has said it is possible his first Purple Heart was awarded for unintentionally self-inflicted wounds.
Sounds like some sort of admission to me.

..... he writes he and his crew, "hadn't been shot at yet." Kerry's campaign has said it is possible his first Purple Heart was awarded for unintentionally self-inflicted wounds. The Purple Heart requirements allow the award of a Purple Heart for self inflicted wounds.......but only if those self-inflicted wounds were received "in the heat of battle".
How could Kerry possibly have been "in the heat of battle" while never having been "shot at yet"?
*********************************
Purple Heart Requirements
5) Examples of injuries or wounds which clearly do not qualify for award of the Purple Heart are as follows:
(a) Frostbite or trench foot injuries.
(b) Heat stroke.
(c) Food poisoning not caused by enemy agents.
(d) Chemical, biological, or nuclear agents not released by the enemy.
(e) Battle fatigue.
(f) Disease not directly caused by enemy agents.
(g) Accidents, to include explosive, aircraft, vehicular, and other accidental wounding not related to or caused by enemy action.
(h) Self-inflicted wounds, except when in the heat of battle, and not involving gross negligence.
To: bondjamesbond
"Given the unpredictable nature of war, I would imagine the definition of what constitutes negligence for 19-year-olds carrying around hand grenades on a daily basis is fairly narrow."
Think about how miniscule that definition is when you give a 17 year old a pocket full of hand grenades.

Kerry almost immediately asked for an early release from the Navy - which was granted by the Admiral. Every time this guy asked for a new job or to be released from duty it was granted. Where I come from that means "Screw Up".

Someone on this thread noticed it earlier...the 13 March 1969 shrapnel wound that Dr. Doyle referred to was a BRUISE! See post #21.

Better yet, this means Kerry's a deserter. He needed three PHs to leave early. One of the three was fraudulent. Thus, at most, he had only two valid ones, one short of what he needed to get out. He deserted because he got out on a frad.

Following up on the question several posters here, myself included, have raised about whether this makes Kerry a deserter, I got onto the internet and looked up the relevant part of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 47 USC Section 885(a)(2), which provides, in relevant part:
"Any member of the armed forces who . . . quits his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to avoid hazardous duty, or to shirk important service . . . is guilty of desertion."
Section 885(c) provides that the penalty for desertion, in time of war is death or "such other punishment as a court martial may direct[.]"
This most recent report shows that Kerry deliberately faked the paper work for his first purple heart. Assuming that's what he did, he escaped "hazardous duty" on the basis of a fraud, since he otherwise would have only had two PHs, one short of what he needed to avoid the hazardous duty. Thus, he's a DESERTER.

well that post 20 is a good start, but hardly the official Navy medical records...
It's Kerry's stateside doctor, cleaning up and summarizing his official records for public consumption.
(meaning there's something JUICY we would see if we saw the OFFICIAL Navy records)
We have nothing but Kerry's word that these are true and correct, and un-altered.
Same goes for EVERY posting on his website of
his Vietnam records. If we prove he lied once, we can't
believe ANYTHING he 'creates' for our viewing.
He has got to sign form 180 so independent researchers can scrutinize the REAL records.

Yes, and he punched out of Vietnam almost immediately after
that bruise on March 13th. But his 3rd purple heart wasn't
APPROVED UNTIL MID APRIL.

I believe that if the claim that Kerry was at the VVAW meeting where they voted on whether to asassinate US Senators is ever proven true, I was of the understanding that his campaign quietly admitted it in the face of witnesses...and that he had voted "no" and quit his position in the organization (sort of).

Here is an instance where the Kerry side admits the Navy records are inaccurate. I think there's another: The Reverend that spoke for him at the convention. Don't the records strongly imply he had been wounded along with Pees and shipped out - never to return - before Kerry took command of his boat?

You're misdefining "quits" in the military sense. He may be guilty of fraud, but not desertion.
