The Word in Republican Circles....
The Kerry Spot ^ | August 23, 2004 | jim geraghty

THE WORD IN REPUBLICAN CIRCLES [08/23 02:41 PM] Just chatted with a high-ranking Republican tuned in to the Bush campaign. A couple of highlights: * The idea that the Swift Boat Vets ads’ could boomerang on Bush is wishful thinking. Smart Democrats understand there’s nothing good about this for John Kerry. * The Bush campaign isn’t worried that the Swift Boat Vets’ message will step on President Bush’s message during the convention. * Despite Josh Marshall’s charges, Bob Dole wasn’t “sent out” by the Bush campaign. The campaign offered to brief him on some issues, and he turned it down. “Bob Dole doesn’t let anybody tell Bob Dole what to do,” the high-ranking Republican said, using the exact third-person style that Dole himself would use. * The Republican also wasn’t impressed with Kerry’s efforts to urge television stations not to run the Swift Boats’ ad, wondering how loud the cries of outrage would have been if the Bush campaign had tried to prevent “Fahrenheit 9/11” from running in theaters.

I keep mentioning this: Paul Alexander wrote a book, The Candidate, in which he mentions Kerry's strategy for winning is to make this a fight about Viet Nam. I just don't understand how this helps him considering that he called soldiers war criminals.

FARFRUMRIT 9/11

Anybody notice the fact that Kerry and Edwards are no longer seen together like they were at first when it looked more like two gays during the height of their mating ritual?

Is it possible that Edwards noticed the look in Kerry's adoring eyes and said "Get me away from Fairy Face!"

If Kerry is being hurt by this - how come all the polls show him comfortably winning? I don't see a hit in the polls. Would have expected a drastic drop.

Like I said, wait for the secondary effects to set in. Kerry will be defeated not with a bang, but with a whimper. ;-)

Regarding the mainstream media polls; those are for public consumption. Caveat emptor. They show you what they want you to see, and you won't see different until right before the election. Judging from the reactions of the Kerry camp, however, their internal polling paints a dire picture. Kerry is on the defensive, spending money, and looking decidedly un-presidential, while the election is still months away.

At this point, (and assuming media complicity) Kerry should be looking ten feet tall and bulletproof. He hasn't even squared off against Bush yet, who is a mercilessly cutthroat campaigner, and he already looks winded.

Well I get really worried. Some of the electoral polls show Kerry trouncing Bush. How can any person realistically chose a Kerry to be a president. It is just ridiculous.

And we are in a tie situation? I just do not understand. Are there really that many people that don't care about their country or that do not see that you don't turn your country over to a liar, a career manipulator, a self-absorbed finger-in-the-wind opportunity finder.

People are now going to feel SORRY for Kerry?

The only people who are feeling sorry for Kerry are his supporters. The people who directly work for his campaign will feel the worst, espcially when Kerry wins only 3 states in November.

hey, Hansel, how are you? kerry can try to make something out of nothing...because that is what he has nothing to offer the American Public. He would turn us over to the UN as fast as you can blink your eyes. But God made us a sovereign nation, and if we respect and serve (God) He will keep us strong. W is appointed by God..do you really believe that he (W) would want to run a country during an unpopular war. Naw, but his heart follows God, so he will do his duty first to God...then to this great nation.

I hope you are right. Sounds like you plotted a great strategery for the GOP.

Or, if the polls are true reflections, we may be seeing the power of the media. I have never seen the media so blatantly promoting a candidate. And, we don't have a counter-attack that reaches the same people. We only can hope that we latch on to them through Fox and talk radio as they flip channels and then begin the Limbaughization/Hannitazation process.

Why should they?

I never have understood the handwringing mode.

President Bush figures the American people can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Simple as that.

The fact that the Swift Vets really and truly are independent of the Republicans comes through loud and clear and polls show that. Common sense tells you we have nothing to fear when truth and integrity are being served up.

Both are the main courses offered by the Bush/Cheney campaign AND the Swift Vets. Each on their own and each in their way and neither stepping on the other. It all seems so clear to me.

"Let's compare Bush's war record to Kerry's: Bush flies planes in the states, Kerry goes to Nam for four months. Both served but in different capacities"

I said in another thread that the President's service is similar to the WWII service of John Kerry's father. The elder Kerry was a stateside test pilot for the Army Air Force. He never saw a 109 or the flak over Germany. I don't think anyone would question his service in the war. The President served as aninterceptor pilot. He was NOT a weekend warrior. He stood ready to fly missions in his 2 plus years on active duty. Did he face the dangers of RPGs and AKs? No, but he served in a very useful capacity and could have been called to combat duty had circumstances warranted.

I do believe God provided Bush to be our leader and give America another chance. Now, I just worry that maybe we have not used that chance to His liking and He will turn us over to a Kerry for our demise. It happened often to God's chosen people the Jews. They would not honor God but chose to go their own way and worship idols. He allowed others to overrun them.

Guess we just pray that God will still lead us in our fight for this country and give us the leader we need.

"what is he going to say about that?"

Republican dirty tricks, splice together some clips of Bush to make the point. Call on Bush to condemn and stop the smear tactics and end with a clip of Bush say "Kerry served with honor and should be proud of his service to his country".

One of the democrat spokes mouth said wait until tomorrow, Kerry is going to come out with a hard hitting against Bush....

Kerry having a temper tantrum like a two year old should be a sight to behold.

What time is this event? I want to plan my grocery shopping around it. I don't want to miss his head blowing sky high.

I'm sorry, your cynicism is wrong. The lead story on the local newscast here in LA was the SVT. This is now a MSM issue, not talk radio - and both sides are getting aired. The local newscast ended with Dole's comments.

Oliphant tonight was indicating Kerry wants this fight. Said he always reacts this way - when attacked, he turns the boat around and heads into the fight. Typical Kerry.

In the past any challenger was quickly dispatched with little effort once they dared broach this subject. Even with the aid of some of these men that now criticize Kerry.

They are stunned that this time it isn't working and these Swift Vets are here to stay. That realization is slowly sinking in and they don't like it. Not one little bit.

I like it a lot.
