THE WORD IN REPUBLICAN CIRCLES [08/23 02:41 PM] Just chatted with a high-ranking Republican tuned in to the Bush campaign. A couple of highlights: * The idea that the Swift Boat Vets ads could boomerang on Bush is wishful thinking. Smart Democrats understand theres nothing good about this for John Kerry. * The Bush campaign isnt worried that the Swift Boat Vets message will step on President Bushs message during the convention. * Despite Josh Marshalls charges, Bob Dole wasnt sent out by the Bush campaign. The campaign offered to brief him on some issues, and he turned it down. Bob Dole doesnt let anybody tell Bob Dole what to do, the high-ranking Republican said, using the exact third-person style that Dole himself would use. * The Republican also wasnt impressed with Kerrys efforts to urge television stations not to run the Swift Boats ad, wondering how loud the cries of outrage would have been if the Bush campaign had tried to prevent Fahrenheit 9/11 from running in theaters.
Unfortunately for Kerry, while there is evidence of plenty of war crimes, by comparing our soldiers to Genghis Khan Kerry emboldened Vietnamese warriors and torturers and increased the suffering of Americans.
Our citizenry is not generally sympathetic to anti-war protestors who are more concerned about the enemy than about their brothers-at-arms. Kerry has known his whole life that this would be his weak point with America as a whole, and his spinners are desperate to make him look heroic for betraying his brothers.
I guess when the truth is not on your side, you have to get your story straight.
Maybe these little tidbits are the only sanity they have to cling to.
exactly right.
that's why its critical now for our side to shift the focus to ad #2 - quickly. frankly, that's the better issue, the first issue has become a "he said/she said" basically.
The Left has spent 4 years saying Bush is as dumb as a monkey.
Look who's eating the Primate Chow now.
Is that a joke?...You don't know why they don't want to bring up outsourcing?...Really?
he said - they said = 0 credibility.
When the truth is not on your side, neither is time. That's why Kerry is in serious danger. He's being hit hard, early, and often. It's months from the election and he's has already taken significant damage.
And if anyone asks about Bush's National Guard service he can always say "well at least I didn't call American soldiers War Criminals while in service."
Too subtle. I bet 9 in 10 Freepers don't get your comment.
Gergen is a Dumbassedus Maximus.
I hope that this will happen since Galanti has been on Hannity today/tonight for interviews. Maybe more outlets will pick him up although he might not be asked for interviews because they would have to have a Kerry person too. If I was in the Kerry camp, I would not want to be sent out to share the interview with Galanti. I wonder if the MSM will go there....
I really don't want to get mired in the medals controversy because it's the weakest part of the case although I do want them to keep hammering him to release his records. I know that the anti-war stuff is what makes people the most mad so I hope we get a full airing of that.
Bob Dole needs a pen
Bob Dole always has a pen
I am not Bob Dole
I agree. and I imagine the Kerry camp understands this. they can (and are) fighting back against the medal controversy, and they will try and keep the focus on that and ignore the second ad entirely. the mainstream media will move in lockstep with them.
let enough americans see that "chopping off of heads and ears" testimony, in his own words, and Kerry will be hurt by it. what is he going to say about that?
don't laugh - those are the news souces the swing voter sheeple listen to, and that's the perspective they get there.
1. He can't talk about getting out of Iraq because everybody has told him it's stupid to give the enemy a reachable goal. 2. He can't talk about relocating troops because he's already flip-flopped in one month's time about troops in Korea. 3. He can't talk about others helping us in Iraq because Germany has said that they aren't sending in troops no matter who's President. 4. He can't talk about many more giveaway programs because he's already given away more than all the tax hike he wants on the top 1% of taxpayers. Furthermore, he can't get them through because everybody knows the House will stay Republican no matter what happens in the Senate. 5. He can't talk about his anti-war activities because the vets are already pissed at him. 6. He can't talk about his Senate record because he flip-flopped and never used any political leverage to make any legislation happen which promoted anything more than his name in the "Me, Too" column.
So, what can he talk about? Himself, his character, his experience. He's an arrogant, elitest, egomanical Ivy-League blue-blood with nothing in common with the average guy. His sense of entitlement is mind-boggling. He's lived off other's money, never having been employed by anyone other than government. A trust-fund-baby living off the public dole--unless you want to include the time he lived off the monies of wives #1 and #2. (To be fair, maybe he's earned his money by having to live and sleep with Mrs. Heinz--that would be work enough!) Heck, Al Gore had more in common with the common man having planted and weeded tobacco! What can he talk about? His mother-in-law being unable to afford medicine? The cost of gas for his SUV's? Hardly.
Bob Dole is "Da Man"!
He is a TRUE war hero
God Bless you, Bob Dole!!!
