CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush says a veterans’ group should stop television ads criticizing John Kerry’s war record.

The president's criticism of the ads by Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth came as Bush denounced all TV ads by outside groups attacking both Kerry and himself on Monday and called for a halt to all such political efforts.

“I think they’re bad for the system,” he said.

Pablo Martinez Monsivais / AP The president, center, was meeting at his Texas ranch with his defense team when he made his remarks on the ad controversy.

When asked specifically whether the ads by the group "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" should be halted, Bush said: "All of them. That means that ad, every other ad. Absolutely."

"I can't be more plain about it," Bush said. "I hope my opponent joins me in condemning these activities of the 527s (political groups that sponsor to ads). I think they're bad for the system."

"Well you just said to me that Bush 'called on all 527 ads to stop and called on Kerry to join him in stopping ALL of them.' "

So what's your point?

After reading the back and forth of what Bush said or didn't say, does anyone have the actual transcript of his remarks? Then, at least, everyone would agree on the words

This from the guy who signed the law that CREATED 527s, no?

The Democrat lawyers found this loop hole. Now, they're suffering the consequences. NOW they're bitching like teen age girls with PMS.
(Bush mentioned this to the reporters, BTW. They just ignored that part - go figure!)

The real issue is What did he do when he returned to the United States?

My feelings exactly.

Kerry is on videotape mouthing off about 'war atrocities' among other things. He was instrumental in the destroying of thousands of veterans' lives.
He can't deny it, it is recorded. Hit him with it.

Bush is a PR master and has managed, like Reagan

Tell you what. Let's see GWB put up some numbers before we start comparing him to the Gipper. In 1980, Reagan won 489-49. In 1984 he won 525-13. In 2000, as we all know, GWB squeaked by 271-266. Let's get a grip on reality. Money talks, bs walks. When I see GWB deliver some NUMBERS, I'll call him Reaganesque.

exactly!

Viet Nam was a sham issue and distraction used by skerry to avoid any discussion of substance

skerry made the election about viet nam - and now he has to lie in that bed.

but I am all for the idea that we "move on" (as it were) and talk about his sissy/thin senate record and wussy leftnik voting record and Bush's steady leadership.

The swift boat ads controversy is starting to work against the President.

No, they're not. Vets for Bush went up 18%.
People like to know who they're voting for. Only the left wing talking heads are upset. Everyone else is watching the show.

The swift boat ad group isn't using this loophole?

The real issue is What did he do when he returned to the United States?

That's the issue in the new upcoming Vets commercial.

Goebbel's propaganda of telling The Big Lie often enough that it is accepted as fact has been adopted by the DemonRats.

I watched the interview. Bush said what he always says. ALL ads are bad, and should be stopped. That was it.

Yes, they are. Democrats have been using it for over a year now. It's about time it was used against them, don't you think?

I think 527s are great. I don't have a problem with either side using them. But I also don't think you can denounce one side for using them, when both sides are using them. That's lame.

From this same article:

When asked specifically whether the ads by the group "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" should be halted, Bush said: "All of them. That means that ad, every other ad. Absolutely."

"I can't be more plain about it," Bush said. "I hope my opponent joins me in condemning these activities of the 527s (political groups that sponsor to ads). I think they're bad for the system."

[snip]

But Bush's comments did not satisfy a broader demand from the Kerry camp and Sen. John McCain, one of Bush's own key supporters, that "the Bush campaign should specifically condemn the ad.''

Do you notice how everyone is looking down (don't want to stumble?) but Dubya is smiling and looking straight ahead?

Kinda cool. What does it say, subliminally? Bush the Visionary?

I said ". . . starting to work against. . ." I didn't say they weren't somewhat successful thus far. But you have to tune in each day to discern what the best strategy is; that is what successful campaigners do.

The Bush campaign is making strategic minimalist moves until the convention, and then he comes on strong(er). The lack of media coverage works in the BC campaign's favor; let the Kerry camp blab all they want and have the media cover THAT. Saves us money.
