Theory: Bush asks for end of swift boat vets' ad. John O'Neill and the other members of SBVFT say, "No deal! This is our story, and we're telling it." Thereby showing that Bush and the Republicans don't control the swift boat vets.

Dang! What is up with the President?

Does he want to be exactly like his father?

CNN's ticker is saying specifcally that he's calling for an end to the Swiftboat ads.

Of course, I don't trust CNN as far as I could throw my remote - this past couple of weeks has seen them move from being biased journalists to outright advocates for Kerry.

Still, knowing Bush's track record, this isn't inconceivable.

The Swifties ain't gonna stop. Bush knows it. Just politics. B/C camp must think that they will gain some political advantage by doing this. But once again the Swifties won't stop for anything. As they said, "This isn't Bush's fight, its ours".

Local San Diego on line paper says in Breaking News that "President Bush says veterans' group should stop TV ads criticizing John Kerry's war record"

This is just sad. This is not the President's fight, it is Kerry's, and the President had to come riding in on a white horse and save his a$$, just like he did the Afghanis and the Iraquis. Our President is everyone's hero, even his opponent's. Kerry has NO COJONES! BTW, I hope the Vets just keep on keeping on, so Kerry will have to "turn his boat around" and fight his own battle. Effin is a Jacquesa$$.

"Breaking News: Bush Asks for End to 'Swift Boat' Ads"

Where is this on the Fox News website?

Not to worry. Asking 'em to stop the ads has very little down side. They won't stop any sooner than they have to no matter what President Bush says, and this makes Kerry's counter attack less effective.

BTW: I have seen some comments to the effect that the Swifties do NOT have to stop 60 days prior to the election. Can anybody confirm this?

What channel? I went home to tape it on PMS-NBC at 11 a.m. when it was supposed to be on and it wasn't on.

It's fine. It's a smart move. Dubya says take the mean ad off the air & the Swifties say sorry no can do.

What's Kerry going to say. "President Bush has asked this ad to be taken off the air"?

Call the President a pussy or whatever, but guess what....now he has the high moral ground. The swifties will listen to him and now Kerry is in a bad position. Bush is calling his bluff. When Moreon.org puts out more and more ads, then Bush can come back and look like the good guy while doing it.

Bush is taking the high road. He realizes that they won't stop, but by asking them to, it shows he isn't in "cahoots" with them as Kerry suggests.

So, the truth in the Swift Boat ads will continue to benefit Dubya. But those turned off by it but still seeing the info will see that Bush himself didn't make or approve the ads.

Without knowing EXACTLY what he said, I would speculate he is setting Kerry up again. He is taking the high road by calling for an end to the ads, along with all other 527 ads, consistent with his previous stance. Knowing Kerry will NEVER ask Moron.org to remove their ads, the first time Kerry mentions the Swift Boat ads in a debate, Bush can nail him by saying "I called for an end to the ads, but you never once called for an end to those ads lying about me."

Just speculating. We will have to wait and see what he actually says.... and if anyone in the media has the balls to ask Kerry to call for an end to his 527 attack ads.

I will NOT hold my breath!

Well, look at it this way.

Bush has no control over what these guys are doing. They can choose to abide by his wishes, or not.

If they say, "OK," then it is OK -- they've already made their point. Kerry's record has been tarnished.

And if they say, "no, you don't control us, and we're going to keep doing this," then Bush has already done his best, and at the same time removed any basis for Kerry's complaints.

Win-win.
