The explanation for Senator John Kerry that he was in Cambodia on Christmas 1968 is by now a famous if not humorous footnote to his overall portrayal of hi own Vietnam War experiences. It is seared in his own, and now our own, memories.
However the statement by John Kerry of his whereabouts at that time begs a very important question. Did Kerry in fact violate a secret oath, made official by his signature, under penalty of severe punishment?
William Shawcross, in his 1979 book Sideshow, detailing covert U.S. operations in Cambodia during the period of the Royal Cambodian government from 1965-70, and later overt and covert operations during the period of the Khmer Republic from 1970-75, made an interesting revelation. In part, he wrote as follows:
The (U.S.) teams entered Cambodia all along its 500-mile frontier with South Vietnam from the lonely, craggy, impenetrable mount forests in the north, down to the well-populated and thickly reeded waterways along the Mekong River. There was a quality of fantasy about the missions. They usually contained two or three Americans
and they were enjoined to the strictest of secrecy; the release they had to sign subjected them to a $10,000 fine and up to ten years imprisonment for disclosing the details of the forays
We can come to only three conclusions, based on Senator Kerrys repeated statements throughout his career that he was on a secret mission into Cambodian territory, specifying time, date, location and method of infiltration with some level of specificity.
--A) Senator Kerry is a serial liar. He was nowhere near Cambodia on Christmas Eve/Day of 1968 nor at any other time. Therefore he has made a serious claim, which is a falsehood, de-legitimizing his self-described Vietnam War record and experiences. This point has been brought up in the Swift Boat veterans book. It has been stated Kerry was in Sa Dec, South Vietnam despite his claims.
--B) Senator Kerry is not a liar, but then perhaps he is a federal criminal, having revealed details of a sensitive program he may well have sworn to maintain as secret, under penalty of severe punishment.
--C) Senator Kerry was in illegally Cambodia but was not a part of US government covert operations. It means he was a participant in a mission similar to rogue, illegal and unauthorized efforts such as Project Cherry. During some of these missions, it is documented that unauthorized killings on Cambodian soil sometimes took place.

One wonders, which of the three are the case, for the would be Commander-in-Chief, who has reported for duty. Perhaps the initiation of a Freedom of Information Act (F.O.I.A.) request to the U.S. federal government in this case is both desirable and necessary at this time.

Anyone know if there was any suicides of POWs after they were released and having to endure the Kerry Rhetoric?

There is some confusion as to precise date the SWIFT Boats were deployed to inland waterways from An Thoi. Some say Jan. 1969. But I have read earlier reports on "detailed missions" they went inland.
An Thoi was at southern end of Phu Quoc Island in Gulf of Siam. 60 miles offshore, but due west of Ha Tien, which was across river from Cambodia. The SWIFT Boats were primarily utilized to interdict supplies/communist individuals from Cambodia. A southern "Ho Chi Minh Trail" if you would.
Anyone who knows the PRECISE date SWIFT Boats entered inland waterways of RVN, please post same. I have no personal knowledge of these events, I was at the other end of the map, so to speak.
Oddly enough, Phu Quoc Island is now a major resort area. Quite lovely in fact.
Only one GI died there during the war. But I do not know if KIA or accident, or "misadventure."

Tough to say. First, we know that Jerry is a liar. Second, we know that nothing is more important to him than advancing himself so his "sacred oath" is a joke, a person's oath is only as good as the person. Hell, he ADMITTED (or claimed) to committing war crimes in front of a Congressional committee. He knes the 'Rat controlled Congress was not going to do squat and would NEVER prosecute him. Hell, they were so eager to damage Nixon that they let Kerry get up on the stand and LIE repeatedly.

A) Senator Kerry is a serial liar. I take 'A' for a $100. Kerry is the epidemy of the leadership of the Democrat party. I do expect politicians to make promises that they only might keep. Yet, Kerry will say anything at any given time to gain favor. If people are looking for the legacy of Bill Clinton, then they need only to look at John Kerry.

I gotta go with "A", Alex.
Kerry's in country six weeks, with a rep as a loudmouth blowhard, and they want to send him up the river into Cambodia on a secret mission?
I'm not a military commander, but I don't think I make THAT call.

Yeah, but in December 1968 Kerry was NOT assigned to An Thoi.
He was assigned to a location whose name I can't recall exactly, but it is on the east coast of Vietnam near Cam Ranh Bay. It is nowhere near Cambodia, and it is nowhere near a riverine system that leads to Cambodia.

Anyone know if there was any suicides of POWs after they were released and having to endure the Kerry Rhetoric?
I can't speak specifically to whether any POW suicides occurred as the result of Kerry, but there were a number of Vietnam vet suicides that occurred after they returned home. Many vets, myself included, were made to feel so disenfranchised and unwanted in this country after we returned from 'Nam, that life became extremely difficult. We were made to feel as though we really were war criminals even though we knew that we had done nothing wrong.
IMO, most suicides by 'Nam vets can be laid at Kerry's feet, but that is just my belief. The MSM reported that those vets were "disturbed" and "unable to assimilate into society" after their experiences in SEAsia. Well, duh! Kerry's lies and fabrications laid that groundwork. If you have never been in that situation, you have no idea what it is like to develop these fantasies about how great things will be once you are "home" or "back in the world", only to have them destroyed by the hostile reception we received as the result of Kerry's lies, deception and betrayal. It was a crushingly difficult time for most of us and we survived only through will power and the belief that things would get better.
Perhaps our reason for surviving the lies of John Kerry is playing out on the front pages today. Perhaps our reason for surviving was to make sure that John Kerry NEVER makes it to the WH and is, on some level, held accountable for his despicable, treasonous activities both in Vietnam and after he came back. Perhaps, today, we can prove that our fallen brothers weren't forgotten 30 years ago. Perhaps, today, we can achieve a measure of justice - and peace - for them.

My money is on B. Pinnochio wouldn't be called upon by the CIA for dangerous covert missions. He wasn't in Vietnam long enough, and his family was too well-connected.
sKerry is pathological, much like Buffalo Bill Clinton.

I myself am trending for "A". I'd love to see a successful F.O.I.A. request put through on this, though, and for the Kerry camp to know, going into September, that enterprising researchers and scholars were on his trail of lies.
