Kerry Showing Signs of Meltdown?

The Kerry campaign closed out last week in full flail. And according to one source close to the campaign, the candidate is really starting to feel the heat. With looming questions about the integrity of his service in Vietnam dominating the narrative of the 2004 campaign, Democrat nominee John Kerry is in full battle mode against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. In addition to the highly orchestrated smear campaign against the vets being run out of the Democrat National Committee, the Kerry campaign and the DNC has also produced a blizzard of legal threats toward television stations who are running the Swiftees television commercials, bookstores that carry their best-selling book Unfit for Command and against the Bush campaign and the Swiftees themselves for what the Kerry campaign insist is an illegal, coordinated attack against America’s most liberal Senator.

But for all the legal harassment and public scorn dumped on the Swiftees, it is Kerry himself who is nervous about the outcome of this increasingly nasty dispute. And it’s starting to show behind the scenes.

A source close to the Kerry campaign and the Democrat National Committee told crushkerry.com that John Kerry spent the better part of last week fighting with his political and legal advisors about how best to handle the Swiftees. His key political advisors did not want to confront the controversy head on, as Kerry has, for fear that it would draw further attention to charges of lies, fabrication and war crimes.

“There were several conference calls and a couple of meetings. Everyone was screaming. I would consider it the low point of the campaign,” our source told us. “By taking the Vets on, John Kerry thinks he’s demonstrating bravery. But it’s a horrible mistake, politically.”

Kerry also battled with his lawyers all week, insisting they distribute threatening letters to bookstores. According to our source, the Kerry legal team thought this, too, would be a mistake with a big risk of backfire.

“Look, bookstores aren’t going to stop selling this book because John Kerry wants them to,” our source told us. “From what I understand, John Kerry made the lawyers send these letters out. Kerry ordered it personally! I mean, we just look desperate.”

Our source also told us that several political advisors argued strenuously against threatening the bookstores and television stations, again fearing they would simply draw attention to the charges.

When asked if they expected anything to come out of the Kerry campaign’s complaint to the FEC against the Bush campaign and the Swiftees, our source was not optimistic. “Those complaints are pretty much pro forma. The Bush people have filed dozens of complaints against us and the 527’s.” our source stated.

When asked if they thought the campaign had overreacted and mismanaged the issue, our source said yes.

“The original plan was to let the press handle it [the controversy, on behalf of the Kerry campaign],” our source told us. “But John Kerry has gone off the deep end. He wants to personally discredit these guys. I don’t know if what they’re saying about him is true, but they have touched a big nerve with him. There is a lot of bad blood there.”

My apologies for the coarse language in my post 198. Didn't realise at first I was adressing a lady. That's just the reaction I have toward this guy.

I really like your pics of George and Laura on your home page. Nice

Striking back at Dole would be a big mistake. It would gain Kerry and the Dims nothing, but it'll come anyway.

Kerry will be catatonic before this is over.

Yes, I think so too. From the reports I've read about his nightmares and hysterical fits and then the massive depression where he doesn't speak for days .. the stress of this attack may be more than he can handle.

Kerry has either known for decades that he was lying or he was under the illusion that his fantasies were true. You have to wonder if the shock of being exposed could cause him to decompensate (?) either mentally or physically or both.

This reminds me of a few posts I've read re the Hacking case... that compulsive liars/sociopaths/manipulators become very unstable and potentially dangerous when they realize that they have been irreversibly exposed.

Mark Hacking, "med student"
John Kerry, "war hero"

At least Scott Peterson has been consistent as a peddler of BS/fertilizer.

I definitely understand having that reaction to the guy! Your post was interesting. I'll be watching for Hurley.

The snarling one I was talking about slapping across the face was Tad Devine. Someone else was talking about Podesta. (Who also deserves a brisk slap!)

This creep is Tad Devine. Be sure and watch his face when he talks. It is guaranteed to tick you off!

I saw that guy you're talking about.

His appearance and presentation was so weaselly that I couldn't pay attention to what he was saying.

To top it off, he acted like he thought he was making the best points and that added to his 'sneer'.

I hope they appoint him as Kerry's #1 spokesman.

Hummmmmmmmmmmm...what does THAT mean?

I think is called collusion or conspiracy or something like that.

As I predicted here Friday (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1195371/posts) this was the campaign's "Willie Horton Moment." On Saturday, I noted "Five Signs that the Swifties are Killing Kerry." Interestingly, this commentator missed some of the biggest ones:

1) Ellen Ratner on Fox used the term "lie" or "lies." It doesn't matter she DENIED Kerry "lied" or "was lying," it's out there now.

2) The Dems brought in the lawyers---a sure sign of desperation.

3) The Dems CANNOT "get back to the issues" because the issues harm Kerry---his ONLY claim that he could fight the "war on terror" was his war record. Do we now trust that?

4) Kerry is spending money he doesn't have and is now campaigning when he said he wouldn't.

Also, yesterday George Will said the Swifties have a real "October surprise," and it may be a 28 minute documentary about Kerry's aid and assistance to North Vietnam with North Vietnamese officials on tape talking about how he helped to break our POWs! We'll see.

The bottom line is Kerry's ONLY out now is to release the records, which he can't do. This will remain the comeback line until the Bush victory, or Kerry releases them, whichever comes first.

Oh, and Freepers, checkt his out: this whole episode may hurt the Dems so badly that the DEMAND repeal of McCain-Feingold and the re-elected Pres. Bush may just have to comply.

And just like Jimmah Carter, he'd try to micro-manage the presidency and then we'd REALLY see what a quagmire is.

Don't get your hopes up.

President Carter was in way over his head, and tried to run the White House like it was a small Naval unit.

But he wasn't a narcissistic fop who never achieved anything in his life like Kerry.

The thought of Kerry as President is much more disturbing than Carter could ever be.

I thought that he was a big time war hero? Compared to all of his secret combat missions this stuff shouldn't bother Kerry at all!

At first glance I thought that the caption was going to be George Washington and the "I cannot tell a lie" line.

"The original plan was to let the press handle it [the controversy, on behalf of the Kerry campaign],” our source told us."

That statement is the real big smoking gun of the campaign. He admits that the media are trying to be the jockstrap of the Kerry campaign. If I were the Republican leadership, I would just plaster this statement on every ad and speech anywhere we could.

For that matter...it could be a big piece of evidence against the major media should there be complaints filed against them for acting in concert with the Kerry campaign!

Ha! I doubt crushkerry.com has any sources in the know at the Kerry campaign. Perhaps I am wrong, but this smaks of tabloid journalism.
