~ MONDAY FAVORITES ~ This week: What is your favorite dessert? |
|
In our continuing series about your favorites, we ask this week about food. We chose this topic for the most obvious of reasons--we all like eating. Instead of wasting time eating something nutritious, we skip to dessert. After all, that's the most important part of the meal. So? Post your favorite dessert and a picture on the thread. If you can't reach us via Freepmail, email us at canteenusa@canteenusa.com . By the way, you can put more than one favorite dessert. These things can be hard sometimes. We don't want to stress you. |
|
~ Dessert Exhibit A~ ~ Cookies ~ Don't see your favorite dessert? Post it on the thread. Also, post the recipe if you'd like. (Click pictures for recipes! If you have a better recipe, please share it with everyone!)
Chocolate Chip Cookies
DID YOU KNOW? |
Ruth Wakefield invented Chocolate Chip Cookies. Ruth Graves Wakefield graduated from the Framingham State Normal School Department of Household Arts in 1924. She worked as a dietitian and lectured on food, until, together with her husband she bought a tourist lodge named the Toll House Inn.
Ruth Wakefield prepared the recipes for the meals served to the guests at the Inn and gained local notoriety for her deserts. One of her favorite recipes was for Butter Drop Do cookies. The recipe called for the use of baker's chocolate and one day Ruth found herself without the needed ingredient. She substituted a semi-sweet chocolate bar cut up into bits. However, unlike the baker's chocolate the chopped up chocolate bar did not melt completely, the small pieces only softened.
As it so happened the chocolate bar had been a gift from Andrew Nestle of the Nestle Chocolate Company. As the Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe became popular, sales of Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate bar increased. Andrew Nestle and Ruth Wakefield struck a deal. Nestle would print the Toll House Cookie recipe on its packaging and Ruth Wakefield would have a lifetime supply of Nestle chocolate. (Click here to find out more information.) |

If you bake it, I will clean Oh, I love your philosophy! I can keep myself fed, but I have to admit it isn't always very appetizing. So my wife and I have a similar arrangement...she cooks, I clean, and we stay happy!

"OTOH, she does enjoy the little single servings of Mott's Applesauce...and she also likes the Gerber Fruit Cups. Oh yeah, and a freah peach off the tree out back also won her seal of approval!"
Then Mott's Applesause IS the official Canteen dessert!

Going for certification to teach. Right now, for elementary school (fastest way to certification). Ultimately, I want to teach math, but they wanted me to retake so many of my math classes (it has been awhile, I admit).
After 25+ years in corporate life, I wanted to do something meaningful. And I figured the kids could use some real-life "learning".
And as a stealth conservative, I could work quietly to counter the heavy lib bias in education.

I have been thinking all day about what could possibly be my favorite dessert. I think I really don't have one. As my co=worker put it, "Give me a bag of brown sugar and a spooon and I'm happy!" I think I could even forego the spoon! LOL!! But pretty close to the top are two desserts from a restaurant here called "YiaYia's." The first is chocolate souffle....
This is just a google pic, but theirs looks a lot like it and you have to order it when you order your meal so it'll be ready when you finish. It comes to you piping hot straight from the oven.
The other item I love is Creme Broulee...I never would have believed eggs, sugar, cream and vanilla could taste so good!

They have already called my Employer (sos staffing). They asked them if I was a good office employee, and sos told them I was among the best. That I had run their office, and was very reliable, and very professional!
I hope that does the trick!! I need this job!!!!

I was too sick to go to my daughter's today, so we've made plans for tomorrow and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
I told her that somehow, someway we WILL have chocolate cake tomorrow! ;)
(She's voting for cheesecake.)
