Meet the Press ^ | August 22, 2004 | Meet the Press

[Excerpt from full transcript. Russert is speaking with Tad Devine, Senior Adviser, Kerry-Edwards '04. -- ajf]

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5772535/

MR. RUSSERT: He didn't take office until January '69. Does Senator Kerry stand by that statement that on Christmas Eve of '68 he was physically in Cambodia?

MR. DEVINE: Right. Well, his memory, Tim, is being there, around there. And I'll tell you what happened on December 25th...

MR. RUSSERT: No--being there or around there?

MR. DEVINE: No, being right at the Cambodian border, over the Cambodian border. That's what he remembers. That's his clear memory. Now, Tim...

[end excerpt]

So according to Devine, Kerry remembers being "over the Cambodian border" on Christmas Eve of '68. It is Kerry's "clear memory" according to Devine.

Yes he did. Nixon was inaugurated on December 20, 1968. The inauguration was a month early because it was a Leap Year.

That's a stetch.

It was actually January 20 in VietNam, because you lose a month when you cross the International Date Line going West. Geezzz...everybody knows that! How else could it be Christmas and Nixon sending secret troops and Kerry actually in Cambodia in that January Christmas?

lol.

[The more versions of the tale they come out with, the more confused they become.]

It appears sKerry's media munchkins have adopted Goebells philosphy of "tell a lie often enough and people will begin to believe it". What they forgot to read is the next paragraph in that course book of "Lying 101". YOU GOT TO TELL THE SAME LIE, NOT DIFFERENT VERSIONS!!

Anybody sitting anywhere near the Fulga Gap in those years couldn't help but contemplate the very real prosepcts of all-out war.

IMHO, Kerry is simply a self-promoting liar.

He was there in Nam...in harm's way...and for that I give him credit. But that's where it ends. He took abject advantage of his service, embellishing it, lying about it and lying about and betraying his compatriots and his nation. He has no honor, no integrity, no virtue.

He would sell the entire country out the same way he did his comrades...in an instant.

Was this memory seared, barbequed, or deep fried into Kerry's mind....THIS time?

You are missing the point entirely, my friend.

The thing that really matters is that Kerry was "serious" about it.

And he did it "better".

Oh yea, he was more "sensitive", too, when he was there.

Glad we got that straight.

Since the Kerry camp came out so publicly and forcibly against the Swifties, the contributions they are receieving has gone WAY up. Chris Wallace asked the one guy about the money from the guy in Texas, and the Swifty guy said, no, most of our money comes from the public. I think he said they were getting like 10-20K before, and like 100-200k after all the bashing by Kerry. I'm not sure what the daily figures were. Wallace was obviously not expecting that answer.

They're all over the place with the Cambodia claim. He was there at Christmas. No, it was in January. It was Christmas, but who knows if they were in Cambodia or in the waters near the border? Who ever knows if they were in Cambodia (I heard that one today)? It's as if the Kerry people are all ad libbing, and none of them know which story the others are using.

This reminds me of Billy Dale. The Clintons were so desperate to avoid all criticism, to be the greatest and cleanest administration in history, that, rather than take at most 2 days of mild criticism, they had to tear someone down. Kerry should just pack it in, admit that he remembers these things imprecisely. But he can't. Not anymore.

Kerry really spent Christmas trying to find the Bob Hope USO show and got lost

Slight correction there he tried to find it with the pre-arranged "explanation" that he was lost if they were to be questioned about it.

and maybe one of the most telling things about Kerry from thise whole SwiftVet Kerry crisis, is what BAD judgement he had for basing his whole campaign around a lie. We can't afford that kind of bad judgement in the White House in these crucial times.

I was in 'Nam - much later. Sounds like sKerry was probably DEEP into "con si"*. If you were there, you'd know what that is. Magical thinking is only one of the side effects.
