Swiftboat Veterans for the Truth spokesman John O'Neill dared Sen. John Kerry on Sunday to sue him for libel if, as Kerry's presidential campaign maintains, key claims in O'Neill's book "Unifit for Command" are not true.
"I invite him to sue me for libel," O'Neill, who co-authored the overnight bestseller with Jerome Corsi, told WABC Radio's Monica Crowley. "If he was actually in Cambodia on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day he should sue me. If, in fact, those other five [Swift]boats, on March the 13, [1969], if they all fled like he did, instead of staying like he knows they did, he should sue me."O'Neill continued:
"If he didn't wound himself with a grenade - causing sort of a rice-fanny wound - and then reported it to the Navy as a water mine - if he didn't do that on March 13th should sue me."
O'Neill issued the challenge after noting that Kerry's campaign has gone to extraordinary lengths to supress the information in "Unfit for Command."
"On our first [Swiftvet] ad, he had two huge lawfirms send letters to every [TV] station, threatening to sue the stations themselves" if they ran the ad, the former Swiftboat commander told Crowley.
"The next thing he did was challenge the book's publisher, Regnery, indicating he would sue them if they continued printing the book," he added.
The bestselling author said that while Regnery declined to stop printing "Unfit," it offered to republish Kerry's 1971 book "The New Soldier," which chronicles the top Democrat's anti-war protests with a group bankrolled by Jane Fonda.
Kerry has declined to have "New Solidier" republished over the years and reportedly bought up most of the available copies in 1972, after his opponent in a congressional race used it to paint him as anti-American.
Well said.
On topic about John O'Neil's declaration that Kerry should sue, I'm not too sure he wouldn't do just that. Kerry clearly doesn't think before he acts. He's an elitist that likely believes his wife's money can buy the best in legal representation to win while the Main Scream Media advocates for him.
I rather hope he is foolish enough to take Mr. O'Neil up on this offer. "Prince John" would be reduced to whimpers, huddled in a corner sucking his thumb.
SPOTREP!!!
If 100's of different downloads came in from 50 different offshore sources, the channeler would be most busy.
There would be no way to stop the all the people who wanted a copy from getting one.
Surely there is a capitalist in Red China who would pirate download copies for a $1.00 apiece. We make a commie rich and Kerry squeal lie a pig. G_D, life is good.
O'Neil was not on FNS. SO ?????? are you talking about?????
I'm surprised you think O'Neill was discredited. I've never seen that happen to him anywhere, anytime; even when Carville and Davis were screaming at him.
I didn't watch today .. I'm watching Olympics instead.
I agree. Clinton from Plaines, GA and Klintoon from AK? sKerry is a MA Senator. Complacency is a dangerous attitude. One must NEVER assume that the race is run, until the winner is announced.
Kerryu, "bring it on". O'Neil, "consider it brought, sue me".
O'Neill was on ABC... not FOX.
O'Dell was on with Chris Wallace... and he was a lot stronger than the liar Hurley.
I think the Swift Vets have struck something much deeper in our culture than Mr Kerry's presidential aspirations. The Left slandered our military during the Vietnam war and now, at last, the Vietnam veterans have an opportunity to correct the record at the national level. They are standing proud, and well they should. It is to our shame that they have to do so.
From what I understand, Counterpunch, the Swifites are working up to it... ;)
"I rather hope he is foolish enough to take Mr. O'Neil up on this offer."
It's possible JfK would be that foolish, but the DNC wouldn't be. He won't sue him.
You can find most of it here:

O'Neil made it clear from day one. It's nothing political, it' completely personal.
I haven't read all comments about your comments, but there is a basic principle here. If you are trying to win sympathy, which the Vets are doing, you do it by making statements that are incontrovertible, such as "this is how what you did made me feel." No one can deny how the other person's actions made me feel. That is the approach the vets used in their first ads. It is brilliant because it is not inflammatory, simply a statement of what the Kerry did to us (POWs).
Kerry CAN'T sue. If he files suit, then everything will have to come out in the open. O'Neil can start the discovery process and Kerry can be forced to sign a release of ALL of his medical records and ALL of his military records, and any FBI Files and any CIA files.
O'Neill knows Kerry would never sue for two reasons. One, the truth will come out and Two, the truth will come out. Kerry knows it too.
OUCH! I bet that left a mark, eh?
Maybe the ad is DESIGNED to make people ask those questions, and look up the information for themselves. Surely the information is available all over the internet. Even if people don't have the internet for themselves, they have family members who do.
Conservatives don't spoon feed .. they challenge.
Amazing also, while they are slandering Vice President Cheney, not a word about Edward's service to his Country.
