Hentoff says there is a "SMOKING GUN" in today's Washington Post article (by Dobbs) about the Swift Boat Vets for the truth---
Hentoff quotes the sentence by Dobbs that KERRY REFUSES TO RELEASE HIS RECORDS. This, according to Hentoff, is the smoking gun. What is Kerry hiding, asks Hentoff.
Hentoff is also ticked off about the lack of reporting of Kerry/DEMOCRAT connections to their 527s. He mentions HAROLD ICKES as one of the main culprits.
Hentoff accuses mainstream journalists of MALPRACTICE. He says the antidote is the book, Unfit for Command, which is flying off the shelves of bookstores. He says the American people are now the jury, not the media.
Hentoff is incensed over Kerry's attempts to silence the vets. Talks about free speech. "This shows you the character of this man who would be president."
(This may not be verbatim -- I'm typing as I listen to this on the Steve Malzberg radio program.)
bump
Hentoff is a huge liberal but he deviates from the True (Leftist) Faith in several big ways, including:
1. FREE SPEECH, including the right to protest at abortion clinics
2. PRO-LIFE, even though he is an atheist
Nat Hentoff is a magnificent person. He's a self-described "atheistic, liberal Jew" who is very left-wing, but happens to be pro-life. (Can you imagine the guts it takes to write pro-life articles for the Village Voice?!)
Atta boy Nat but their is plenty of totalitarianism running amuck in America. McCain would silence everybody that doesn't pass his purity test and President Bush keeps yapping about banning 527's. The 1A is under attack from all sides, the entire 1A.
I also admire him for his stance on abortion. Finally, an honest liberal.
I don't think I've ever heard Hentoff so passionate as he was this morning, raking Kerry over the coals!
Good news. Thanks for the report.
Not as much as you think, if the writer is Nat Hentoff. If he were to leave the VV would lose its only remaining star.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... isn't this fun watching sKerry squirm? He'll HAVE to deal with his records at some point. If he has nothing to hide they would be the FIRST thing he would point to!!!
Wish they would rerun that tonight, instead of the wackjob Art Bell.
).
Love it, love it, love it. Let him squirm!!!!!!!!!
Tell Kerry to release his military and medical records.
Also tell Kerry that it's now obvious about the ties the DNC has to MoveOn.org and that he should condemn their hateful commercials:
"Nov 13, 2003
The DNC is also conducting a major petition drive in partnership with MoveOn.org. More than 310,000 Americans have signed the petition to protect our courts with more than 172,000 of those signatures coming in the past 36 hours. The petition calls on Bush and the Republicans to stop nominating judges that are out of step with mainstream Americans and praising the Democrats for standing up for their rights."

DNC Chief Operating Officer Josh Wachs (left), Senator Leahy, and Zack Exley from Moveon.org pose with the more than 310,000 signatures.

Thank you for posting.
Does anyone think there are other Dems "behind the scenes" wondering the same thing about the records?
The normal Dem operatives are not coming out in support of Kerry on this issue. Only the screaming "me mes".
Interesting! Ickes is also mentioned in http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1196494/posts
Malzberg gets some of the best guests, and does some of the best interviews in the business.
And, at the helm of the democRAT party are viscious antisemitic elements who would have the US drop its supoort of Israel in "solidarity with the Palestinian people." Maybe Hentoff just sees clearly that the RATS are the main enemy of the Jewish state.
He was very passionate and very angry about the media coverage and strongly defended John O'Neill's integrity. He was actually booked on the show to talk about McGreevey but instead insisted on talking about the WP story about Kerry. And he managed to rake the NY Times over the coals as well.
