SEATTLE, Washington (Reuters) -- A black bear was found passed out at a campground in Washington state recently after guzzling down three dozen cans of a local beer, a campground worker said on Wednesday.

"We noticed a bear sleeping on the common lawn and wondered what was going on until we discovered that there were a lot of beer cans lying around," said Lisa Broxson, a worker at the Baker Lake Resort, 80 miles (129 kilometers) northeast of Seattle.

The hard-drinking bear, estimated to be about two years old, broke into campers' coolers and, using his claws and teeth to open the cans, swilled down the suds.

Sounds like an urban legend to me. Corn doesn't/won't ferment. Whiskey has to be distilled from corn.

Ethanol = Gassy bears?

Corn ferments and produces alcohol, same process as when apples turn into hard cider. That's only a step to producing whisky (or applejack). Distillation cleans it up and concentrates the active ingredient.

>>Corn doesn't/won't ferment.

The Inca used to ferment corn and drink it--they called the ferment beverage, chicha. Which you can still find in some parts of Peru today.

The story might still be an urban legend, but it seems most any starch that can converted into sugar is a candidate for fermentation.

The men in my family, being REAL men, drink Shiner. I, being on a quest to regain my girlish physique, am drinking (ugh) Michelob Ultra.

Upstart bears who steal my beers are likely to get shot between the ears.

This may explain what happened to all that missing Moosehead...

They set a trap using as bait some doughnuts, honey and two cans of Rainier Beer. It worked, and the bear was captured for relocation.

Who were they trying to catch, Homer Simpson? Bob and Doug McKenzie?

Obviously they need to revoke the bear's driving license.

Hamm's beer is what a cheap beer should taste like. It's Budweiser without paying the extra cost of their advertising. The Hamms Beer Chest for $11 Bucks!! (30 pack)

Corn does ferment. Anything with a sugar in it will easily ferment.

Heck, hay and wood will ferment under the right conditions (wet and hot and mold).
