Joe Scarborough Still Thinks Kerry's A War Hero
self | 8/18/04 | self

I just heard Joe Scarborough say that he felt Kerry is a war hero. Scarborough said if Kerry feels that he misspoke as a young man he should say so, but if he stands by his anti-war/war crimes statements, he should keep quiet. Did anyone else hear this and interpret it this way? I was surprised. I thought we could count on Joe to acknowledge the truth.

I just don't get it...

I don't understand why talk show hosts (and callers) don't just say, "OK, he was awarded medals, and he honorably served his country."

But that was 30+ years ago. And believe it or not, you can be a decorated war "hero" and still be a scum-bag.

Don't foget that Timothy McVeigh was awarded the Bronze Star in Gulf War I. And that if not for the actions of Benedict Arnold at the battle of Lake Champlaign, the Continental Army would have probably lost the revolutionary war.

For some reason, these two are better known for actions they took AFTER their wars...

I find myself shouting this at the TV and radio alot these days!

I took notice when Joe compared the comments by the SBVTS on Kerry's war record (parapharasing here), "as about as far out as the Right coming out with the Clinton Chronicle's". How about that for a proponent of conservatism or for that matter nonpartisan.

Obviously Joe and John (McCain) both have yet to read "Unfit for Command".

Joe is trying to stake out a niche similar to Bill O'Reilly, that of an independent semi-conservative; the format of his show also emulates O'Reilly's. So I guess Joe has gone all the way and adopted O'Reilly's soft-on-Kerry tendencies as well.

Dennis Miller calls him one too. I don't know why so many are afraid to challenge that status. I think it has something to do with respect for other veterans, decorated and undecorated. They simply don't want to start undermining them and their credibility, or so the feeling seems to be amongst some of these pundits.

You're probably correct. Look at Miller's and Scarborough's ages and Nam is relatively close to them. Perhaps they mistakenly believe they are respecting those veterans by not contributing to the brouhaha. Personally, I think they're wrong. Veterans of Nam went through Hell on their return home (and prior to it, of course) and the only way to change that perspective is to tell the truth.
I appreciate the Swiftees trying to set the record straight and change the perception so many have of the Viet Nam warrior.

Scarborough and OReilly have caught the same disease. I hear it is incurable.

I don't think anyone ever accused Scarborough of have "good judgement"...

If memory serves correctly -- he and Congressman Condit were "best buddies" and "partied" together...

Joe left politics about the same time as the Condit crap hit the fan......speculation on Joe's motivation to leave at that particular time was widespread..

A little "history" from the period, involving a dead female employee in Scarborough's district office...and various other "issues"......

"FORT WALTON BEACH, FLa. - Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old office worker for Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-Fl), was found dead in the congressman's district office. Police said preliminary findings from the medical examiner's office showed no foul play or any outward indication of suicide."

Unbelievably, that was it. The story was simply dropped. A young female employee of one of Florida's Congressmen had died unexpectedly in the Congressman's office. There were no witnesses to her death and the cause of death was not apparent. Klausutis' boss, Joe Scarborough had recently resigned from Congress prematurely and unexpectedly, amid rumors about his marital fidelity and soon after a divorce. He had also abruptly resigned as publisher of the Independent Florida Sun, claiming that resigning from Congress and as publisher was necessary to spend more time with his sons.

Such circumstances make one pause. Sick to death of the clear bias of the corporate owned media, and suspicious of the odd nature of this death, we began to dig for answers. The more information we discovered, the more unlikely, and the more newsworthy the story became."

Thanks. I had heard that another congress type, a buddy of Condits, had problems of the "P.I." type-now I know who it is. Very interesting.

Joe wants the liberals to like him, and he's too interested in appearing "hip" and "open-minded". I think he's lost some credibility since he's had this show.

You want to read a true account of people who EARNED their metals, here it is:

"Mortar fire was coming into the LZ from the North and West. Lt. Grant got the 2nd and 1st Platoons in place in the West and North side of the LZ and immediately a "Human Wave" struck. Many of the men on the perimeter were wounded, but they held their ground and killed the PAVN as they came in. The small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire were intense. The 3rd Platoon, under Lt. O'Brian, was fighting its way back into the LZ. Capt. Boss moved back and forth through the fire getting people into position and coordinating the fires. Lt. O'Brian's Platoon was being hit by a company. He was all over the area shouting instructions and covering the wounded. Lt. Bainbridge was doing his best to keep the Platoon organized, and succeeded beautifully until he was hit in the back. His wound was massive, breaking the bones in his left scapula and shoulder.

Lt. Grant brought three people with him and carried Lt. Bainbridge back to a small fold in the ground. Lt. Bainbridge was lying on his stomach. When Lt. Grant reached him the fire was intense. Lt. Bainbridge showed the spirit of Alfa Army by telling Lt. Grant "If I'm going to die, don't turn me over. Let me die here with my men. Get somebody else out." But Lt. Grant pulled him out anyway. In doing this, Lt. Grant caught a round in the shoulder and was wounded in the leg. Capt. Boss and Lt. Grant moved back and forth across the area, keeping ammo distributed and giving encouragement and instructions. The small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire would not let up. Lt. Grant went out to bring in a wounded man and was pinned down by a well-placed machine gun. He took three men and some grenades up to the machine gun and personally destroyed it. Then he and his party dragged the wounded men into a covered position. Again, the incredible Lt. Grant took 5 men and went out to bring back Lt. O'Brian, who had been shot in both legs. The party reached Lt. O'Brian, who was fighting along with three other wounded men. They pulled them out and started back to the perimeter. Three or four mortar rounds landed directly on the group and killed all ten instantly. Lt. Riviere, Sergeant hatch, Sergeant Douglas, Sgt. Davis and all other leaders in the perimeter urged their men to hold, but the men of Alfa Army were rock steady and took more "Human Waves" from the North and West."

You make excellent points! But, any caller who says Kerry "honorable served his country" would be a liar!

Have you seen that video of Kerry walking around in the jungle, amoung the natives? Did you know that the man is recording a crime? He was committing a crime by walking out in the jungle! He was a commander on a Swift Boat....he was not suppose to leave the boat! He left his post to shoot his propaganda video! How arrogant and self serving is that?!

Four Months into a year's tour of duty...

Three QUESTIONABLE Purple Hearts to get out...

Coming home and running down his military brethren...

Seems to me there's enough evidence there to call Kerry a Malingerer and Malcontent, not a HERO!

Upon reflection, what you say makes sense. But, that's not the way he started out. I wonder what the process is when these shows start watering their original message. Maybe there just weren't enough conservatives watching to give them high enough ratings.
