Bush Consolidating Base in Core Republican States George W. Bush has consolidated his base vote in core Republican states in recent weeks and has made slight inroads in swing states in the process of moving to a somewhat more competitive position against John Kerry. These conclusions are based on a comparison of the candidates’ ballot strength in three June and early July CNN/USA Today/Gallup polls compared with three polls conducted from just before the Democratic convention through last week. There has been no significant change in the race in core Democratic states.

But I thought his base is frustrated, disappointed, will not show up in November. Every election you hear the same crap. I think Bush's approval rating among republicans is almost as high Reagan's was.

Just wait until after the convention. Between Kerry being in a Vietnam/Cambodia lie-filled quagmire and the GOP convention, Bush should be riding high going into the debates.

If this is the best the DNC and Kerry can do, with a bump from their convention: I would watch for voter fraud in NM, SD, MO and other swing states if I was a RNC member! We need Jimmy Carter in those states to insure America gets a fair election! sarcasim off.

Bumper stickers .....yard signs all over the red states of Texas, NM, and Oklahoma. Not to mention LA, Kansas, Nebraska. Those are the states I have visited this summer..... it is 10-none for Bush.... We just all need to order yard signs and bumper stickers......and be bold.. they do make a differance.

I'd add that the distaste for Kerry among Repubs equals or exceeds that for Dukakis or Clinton.

I'll never look at Jimmy Carter's face w/o recalling Emmett Tyrrell's deathless description of the "smile that sends small children scurrying for cover".

The Soccer Moms are looking for a real man to protect them and their kids now.

There are also a lot of gutsy gals out there especially the married ones, who are never stronger for W. We're the same ones who rooted for Reagan.

It is really the unmarried women (think of bitter never-marrieds and divorceees) who are looking for another "Big Daddy" to take away their cares and woes.

"Just wait until after the convention. Between Kerry being in a Vietnam/Cambodia lie-filled quagmire and the GOP convention, Bush should be riding high going into the debates."

I'm cautiously optimistic GWB will pull this thing out in the end, but I certainly don't think the convention will have anything to do with it.

Dan Blather & Co. have already made the decision NOT to carry the opening night heavyweights (Guiliani, et al), and I have no doubt the focus of coverage will be on protesters and "the large number of Pat Robertson evangelicals in this convention center."

I'll be watching C-Span for unfettered coverage, but I'm not expecting the sheeple to do the same.

I agree with the yard signs.
However buy several or put it close to your house.
One of the favorite opposition tactics in frustration is to steal yard signs.
