Poland demands Ottawa censure CTV over 'insult'
OTTAWA - Poland has asked the Canadian government to take action against broadcaster CTV for refusing to apologize to viewers for referring to a Nazi German concentration camp in Poland as a "Polish camp."
From what I understand, at the liberation of Auschwitz, the American troops were so disgusted that the locals didn't do anything about the attrocities, they made the locals clean up the mess.
Correct. It's also depicted in the great, superb miniseries band of brothers.
I forget what camp they were at, but every local above a certain age was instructed to dress up in their best clothes and assemble. Then they were made to clean up the bodies.
Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army. The Soviet general was so horrified at site that he has the Nazis in charge executed on the spot.
You are correct about what the Americans did, but the camp was somewhere in western Germany.
No it was the concentraion camps in Germany where this happened.
My uncle was a Pole who was in a concentration camp under the Nazi regime, you have no clue of what you are talking about.
You are blaming the Poles for the Nazi atrocities, I suggest you go to a library and read about the siezure of Poland.
I expect these comments from the imbeciles at DU, but am surprised to read them here.
How old are you?
They did this, absolutely. But the civilians were Germans, not Polish. The Poles suffered massive deportation to the Eastern part of the country (and to concentration camps, too) to make place for Aryan "settlers" (I think it was the official terminology), under Hitler's plan to make Eastern Europe the new German motherland.
IIRC it was buchenwald. in the show band of brothers
I am afraid I don't know much about the "camps" per se, in thier location.
I just remember seeing one in Holland when my dad was stationed there.
I was referring to the germans being forced to do it, as depicted in the miniseries. I wasn't referring to anything done by the polish. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
That sounds right. Wish I had the DVD box set of that, but it's just too dang expensive right now.
No one is blaming the Pol's for any atrocities here.
I am sure everyone on this post will agree it was the Nazis regime that is the blame.
"AWWWW, if it is Poland, it must be Polish."
Following thic logic - if the Twin Towers distruction and murdering of a few thousand of people happened in America so that mass-murder "must be American".
You've got it confused with Buchenwald, which was just outside of Munich.
The ignorant know.
It's just that we've heard plenty of idiots that have claimed over the years that the Poles were no better towards Jews than the Nazis. It is a lie that has been repeated over and over again.
Don't forget that as many poles died in the Nazi Camps as Jews.
The towers were american, though built by the Japanese engineers, they were of course on AMERICAN SOIL. So, hence american
They were brought down by, Islamic extremists.
The concentration camps, though built by nazis, ran by nazis, but they are of course now on Polish land. As a Generalization, not ownership, they are polish by virtue.
In relation to the towers, you are saying that the towers are the murderers....
Am I to understand that, or did you word it incorrectly?
To be honest, I don't know why anyone would treat a Jew badly. I have never met one that treated me badly.
The Poles are our friends and our allies. They stand tall with us in Iraq, facing danger with strength, honor, and courage. All the while the naysayers say Poland doesn't count as part of a coalition. After all, they only sent a few troops compared to the number of troops we have in Iraq.
Some gratitude by the libs.
The picture of Mr. Walesa kneeling at the casket of Ronald Reagan says it all for me. I will forever hold Poland in my prayers.
Poles know they value and cost of freedom.
I am also surprised and shocked to read comments such as this on FR.
